as does every province in Canada.

I dont think so.  Quebec has some fairly unique arrangments that would not be a priority for other provinces.

And rightly so, some of our arrangments are just there because "we're different".

Well for $157 K, i dont feel so sorry for her.

You might, though..that's like a week's pay for you.  ;)

She might be led into prison or paying a fine instead. It seems the signatures on her candidacy papers have been forged or signed under false pretenses. The Cons and Libs have already deposed an official request for the election to be annuled in that riding.

Not sure what you mean.

The media are reporting some of the people who's signatures appear on her forms say they never signed the forms.

GF is saying that if you looked at all the candidates in all the ridings, you'd find a lot of that. I doubt the conservative dude in my riding got those signatures, or if the lib candidate in remote alberta did either.

Dude, it's easy to get those signatures.  I got a bunch of signatures in '97 for the campaign I managed (and where we came in 4th.).

People will generally sign your nomination papers even if they won't vote for you - the reasoning is that all parties deserve to be on the ballot.

I don't know much about this particular case, so I have no comment.  But I do disagree strongly with your assertion that all parties routinely forge signatures on nomination papers.

I wouldn't be surprised if parties cut corners in places where they don't expect to win.

Dude - they don't make 22 year old university students the Campaign Manager if they expect to win.  We were going up against the very powerful Lloyd Axworthy, and our candidate was a nobody computer programmer.

But there's no need to "cut corners" for something so easy to do.  Just knock on doors for a few hours and you'll get the signatures.

*shrug* This is Quebec dude. Mcleans tells me we're corrupt like that.

After listening to the guy who claimed he never signed, I wouldn't be surprised if he indeed had signed without understanding the in slightest what was asked of him...

She'll fit well in that riding...

there are at least 2 such ridings in this position.  This one, and the riding next to it.

But what GF meant, I mean, is that most people wouldn't remember signing for candidate X if they were asked later on.  There's a lot of media coverage on her right now, a lot of frustration from the Bloc, so of course, people who are suddenly asked if they signed for this or this now remember nothing of the sort.

lots of people said that they thought they were signing for a petition.  I never understood people who sign papers without reading them.
