13 Assassins........excellent

No. 13 Assassins.......mediocre
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

Watched "The Last Samurai" enjoyable, entertaining movie. If not very romanticized.

No shit.

Might have liked it better if Algren was French.  <_<

Rather than swedish?

Just caught the first episode of the Dresden Files

It certainly caught the spirit of the books, even if the usual amount of changes have been made. Opening up with the Skinwalker and making it an easily dispatched mid-level goon was for instance a bit irritating.

Looks like a fun show though, and it's typical that it got cancelled after the first season. Those fucking morons wouldn't know good TV if it jumped up and sodomized them in the face.

I never thought I'd really enjoy the idea of a wizard gumshoe, but the series is just spectacular.

Turning the whole Du Morne, Margret Le Fay, Ebenezer McCoy and Elaine Mallory backstory into the half ass Mornington storyline from the TV Show did sort of kill much of the magic.

Details like the hockey stick, the drum stick, no mister, no blue beetle, the sam spade like office missing, Murphy not being a blonde, Red court vampires being modern sexy emo vampires  etc.etc.etc. all of that can be acceptible.

They squandered the richness of the details from the books. Ultimately, though, the show just wasn't very good. Not using the best features from the books just made it that much harder to have the series be good.

Having watched episode 2, I can only agree.

It was a nice try, but no cigar.

Switching out the blasting rod/wizard's staff with a drum stick = :bleeding: :bleeding::bleeding::bleeding:

Nah, by that I meant, slightly more historically accurate (if something like that could possible in this movie).

Brunet proves once again how sporing a huge 'stache correlates with being badass.

The Larch

I watched three movies this weekend, so here go the reviews.

Friday: Captain America. It had everything that was expected from it. The beefcake hero, the sassy girl, the gruff yet paternal boss, the dorky scientist, the loyal sidekick, the megalomaniac villain, the weasely mad doctor, etc. Nice retro/pulpy feel (with a wink to Indiana Jones on the side), no wonder they got the Rocketeer guy to direct the movie. Plenty of the HYDRA stuff (super tanks, planes, jets) came from real deal zany nazi designs that didn't get done, and the goons are all SS-ed up in black uniforms instead of the retarded snake theme from the comics.

7 campy war bonds campaigns out of 10.

Saturday: Your highness. Pretty dumb stoner comedy set in a fantasy world with a surprisingly famous cast. James Franco and Danny McBride play the protagonists, two princes, one a dashing swordman (Franco), the other a lazy man-child (McBride), with Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman playing their female counterparts (the damsel in distress and the action girl respectively). Lame jokes about weed, sex and gross-outs in faux medievalese all along. At least Natalie Portman (or her body double) shows her sweet, thonged ass gratuituously. Charles Dance (Tywyn Lannister from GoT) plays the King, great head of hair included, and Winters from Band of Brothers plays the first knight of the prince's retinue.

3 severed Minotaur penises out of 10.

Sunday: Scarface. Had this one in my to watch list for a long while, and finally managed to get to it. The look was so 80s that I think my hair got permed. Tony Montana must be one of the most unredeemeable and unlikeable characters in the history of cinema, but his story is the definite rags-to-riches(-to death) of the underworld. I read that it's a cult movie amongst low level members of the Camorra and other organized crime mobs, and I can see the point, a nobody rises to the top through sheer badassness and balls, yet the attitude that helped him rise also makes him fall. I must see it again in the original version, I feel that I missed lots of stuff watching it dubbed. I must also play GTA: Vice City again at some point.

8 gruesome executions with a chainsaw out of 10.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

Caliga

Larchie, yeah when we saw Captain America I was explaining to Princesca how most of the HYDRA shit was similar to real Nazi prototypes, and she was amazed.

Also, Scarface is a 10 out of 10 GODDAMNIT.

Yeah, yeah, I know. At least I watched it in Spanish, as close to the original as possible. :P
