So, in Kim's Convenience, the manager at the car rental who has the hots for Jung looks fairly similar to an ex-colleague from Toronto. Which makes it even funnier when she mentions that she played basketball in college ... because so did my ex-colleague.

I watched an episode of Fort boyard.
It's amazing they're still making this. It does not seem great for animal rights.

The trailer is out for the new Masters of the Universe Netflix show, the one produced by Kevin Smith, and it hits me right in the center of childhood nostalgia. And the soundtrack is chef kiss worthy.

Watched it today.  It's a dumpster fire.

Ellaborate. Also, is it just the 1st part, right?

Wag's hyperbole is close to the mark...and that mark hits in the first episode, but it does carry through the rest of the episodes.

Going to have to spoiler tag to elaborate....
I have to share the critique that is NOT "He-Man & the Masters of the Universe", but much more "Teela & the Masters of the Universe.  But not because of the "you hate strong women!" nonsense, I am actually easily on board with making Teela the central character...the problem is that they make her such an unlikable, insufferably horrible person.  Her tantrum after Prince Adam's death is spectacularly ridiculous, to the point of infecting/ruining the character and her motivations, to the point that they are unredeemable...and it continuous even in the end, to the point of chewing him out and guilt-tripping him in the fuckin' afterlife...."sure you died, but I had to live with knowing you LIED".  Tri-Klops and his mechaist religious order is just stupid.  Orko's character ark is annoying and low-level lame.
But it has good elements.  The animation is good.  Evil-Lyn gets some flak from the from the same quarter that spews the shallow hate on Teela, but I think she is far better character, and just amplifies what Teela could have been with better character motivations.

I think I was also revolted by having just heard enough of the aftershow with Kevin Smith, where he cannot help but smack his own ass repeatedly in self-conflaggelation with a
"look at me !  aren't I such a courageous badass for killing Prince Adam TWICE!"..."and we did it all for you, the fans!"....what a fucking asshat.
It is very polarizing.  There doesn't seem much middle ground. Either you love it and everyone who doesn't hates women or you hate it and everyone who enjoys it is just woke liberal garbage.
PDH!

I know nothing of the Masters of the Universe franchise, but I don't think I've ever seen a bigger mismatch between critical reviews and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes! 😄

The critics apparently loved it - not so the average audience, at least the ones who leave scores on this site.

Similarly the IMDB score is low.

See if it was actually good these kinds of discussions usually get pushed to the side.

I have to say make He-Man, a show whose fanbase is like 90% men in the 40s and 50s, into a girl power show is really odd. Who is the target audience for girl power reboots of early 80s boys cartoons? Young women who just really love their dad's/grandpa's weird nostalgia trips?

The target group is about as big as for the latest Ben Hur remake. Ie ginormous.

Amazon's LOTR series (set during the Second Age) will come in 2022.

My feels is that they didn't really give a crap about any target audience, but that it was a subsidized Kevin Smith vanity/ego-trip.

There are allegations Smith claimed it'd be about He-Man, and actually lied about it.

I don't know.  She-ra is apparently very popular, so maybe there was a legitimate expectation that there would be a huge audience for it.

She-Ra isn't in the show though :P (Edit: Ok I don't actually know that for sure but if she was it probably would have been mentioned someplace)

The original cartoon crossed over from time to time. Having He-Man and She-Ra team up in this series would have been a great idea if that was the target audience they are going for.

I didn't dislike Kevin Smith's movies in the 1990s but holy shit did they age poorly and eventually it kind of felt like that 40 year old guy who still goes to College parties by the time Clerks 2 came out. Kevin Smith sucks, I have no idea why they would hand him a show.

And there's already a "girls version" in she-ra. Which as  little kid i liked more then he-man because it was one of the bed time stories my mom used to read to me

The new She-Ra seems to be pretty decent. Of course there was an outcry from some "fans" that new She-Ra wasn't sexy enough any more.
