Tribes of Europa (on Netflix)

Greenie forest-dwelling German luddites battle goth-punk cannibal Berliners in a post-apocalyptic tribal Europe.

A couple episodes in, but it's actually rather good and fun so far.  Tentative recommend.

I think it held up through the rest of the season (and adds in a righteously hypocritical militarist tribe and a tease of a Red Sonja Amazon tribe).

Now just need to see if it becomes another one-season wonder-with-a-cliffhanger ending Netflix show that gets shit-canned.

I Care A Lot

I've mixed feelings on this as while I think premise and setup worked well, the movie lost me at times.

During the course of it I went from rating it (out of 5): 4 to 3 to 2.5 to 3.5...eh maybe 4 at a push.

So...listening to spotify with my VPN tuned into America I get an ad for a series named Superman & Lois... I had no idea they were making another Superman series. Interesting.

I was really pissed most of the way through.
And while the ending was acceptable, it was a bit too Hollywood cliche. She really should have died at the mobsters' hands.
Really excellent job by Pike though.

Agree with that. I was actually hoping
once the lead mobster decided he could let someone live who threatened him...that he would let her start all this up, get comfortable and then kill her off. [/spolier]

The Brain

Mary Shelley. Young woman finds love, misery, and inspiration. OK movie. For some reason it suggests that Frankenstein in the book builds his creature from body parts. I guess someone confused the movies with the book. Building the creature from body parts doesn't make any sense. For his R&D Frankenstein requires cadavers, since he is figuring out exactly how the human body works. But production itself doesn't use body parts. He builds the creature larger than life to make work on fiddly details simpler, where would you find body parts that are larger than life? When he builds the bride (pure production) he does so in a remote location without access to cadavers. And in many ways most importantly, the whole point of the book is that Frankenstein creates life and that the creature confronts his Creator. A simple reanimator would be something quite different.

The Investigation. A Danish/Swedish series, airing here on HBO. Based on the story I remember from a few years back about a female Swedish journalist who was murdered in a homemade submarine . It's very well done. It follows the chief investigator and his team. It's not sensationalist. You never see the murder--it's all based on what HE sees and knows. Recommend it.

Gemini Man.

Ang Lee. Mary Elizabeth Windstead. Will Smith. Benedict Wong. Clive Owen.

How could this be bad? Well, you add a poor CGI Will Smith, replace Clive Owen with an android, and forget making the movie exciting about half way in.

But it was a nice commercial for Cartagena.

Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Some good action scenes, but too in love with Western tropes and implausible action to maintain interest.  3/5

Good cast misused.

and the generation that watched Lois & Clark is too old to care now.

So is the Netflix Sengoku series any good?

I liked that movie, and yes a bit over done with the fighting but still a fun movie for me.
