I hope Burton can shake off the two past decades of overproduced and overstylized movies with little substance. I'm not optimistic though.

The premise sounds fucking awesome, but the execution will make it or break it.

A supernatural teen detective show starring Wednesday Addams at an Edgar Allan Poe inspired academy directed by Tim Burton.

That sounds horrible. Doing weird spinoff shows with characters from ensemble casts has a very mixed track record. Not everybody can be Frazier.

But hey it will probably be better than Joey.

Blade 2 (2002)

The vampires face a new deadly foe with a vampire who eats vampires.  They form a truce with Wesley Snipes and he and a group of vampire commandos led by The Villain's Beautiful DaughterTM go to hunt the new threat down; but maybe all is not as it seems...

This time they get rid of what little character development they had in Blade; only The Villain's Beautiful DaughterTM has even a character arc.  The ass-kicking gets taken up a notch here, unfortunately with the aid of the dreaded power creep.  Even without his sunglasses Blade is about level Batman in terms of ass-kicking; with his sunglasses he goes to level Ninja Jedi Batman.  The film does have some Wuxia like scenes (probably derived from The Matrix) but wisely avoids using the bullet time they had pioneered in the original film.

I think the largest failure is that the next movie wasn't "Vampire Commandos," but instead "Blade 3: Trinity".  "Vampire Commandos" would have been B-movie gold (and Blade 3 was not.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

The mortal Kombat trailer actually looks pretty good. CGI ranges from pretty good (ice) to not that great.

How many good supernatural teen detective shows exist? I'm at a loss...
Scooby doo?
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

That's not supernatural. It is always old man Withers in a mask.

Some of the 80s Scooby-Doo Series had real ghosts.

Was a delightfully stupid series that had Vincent Price in it.

I'm waiting for that review, btw! :P

#3 is a lot more hit&miss than than the 2 previous ones, imho.  Overall, not that bad of an action movie, but the first two were clearly superior. By #3, Snipes believed himself to be a real super hero :P

I'm late to the party, but I've just watched the first episode of *The Queen's Gambit*.

It's as good as everyone says it is.

Tribes of Europa (on Netflix)

Greenie forest-dwelling German luddites battle goth-punk cannibal Berliners in a post-apocalyptic tribal Europe.

A couple episodes in, but it's actually rather good and fun so far.  Tentative recommend.
