Not a very popular subject for some reason. I think it's the powdered wigs.

It's weird though, it's not like there aren't loads of movies from other periods in US history, and this is the actual birth of the country, I'd have thought it would be popular if only for the inherent flag-waving aspect. Plus brits as villains.

Not enough racial tension to draw American interest.

What's the general view on the American Revolution from a Black History pov? (possibly walking on a minefield here, but I'm genuinely interested)

The Crossing looks like the kind of thing I'm looking for. Thanks.

I will admit The Crossing is excellent.  It was a made-for-TV movie, back when A&E actually had a few shreds of intellectual integrity and decency left, but its a well-made production.

Jeff Daniels puts a really good spin on a whelp-this-is-it George Washington putting all his chips in for a pair of 7s at Trenton.

Fuck, we could really use a George Washington right about now. :(

They had a better shake of it--the concentration of slaves was much less and opportunities on the frontier where greater--and it was all downhill from there.

Admiral Yi

I think there was a movie version of the musical 1776.

QuoteThese were so obviously US soldier-actors, untrained in the correct use and reload of the k98, it hurts to watch them storm forward without rechambering, and how awkwardly they operate the bolt.

well, there ain't many movies on the 7 years war, and I do not remember any about 1812.

I remember two other ones:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233582/ (Canadian tv movie)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Broken_Chain

last one is pretty good for a tv movie, and the most historical one of the bunch I've seen.  but it deals mostly with Joseph Brant (Mohawk leader) and his dealings with the duplicitous British.  Not for everyone.

Wow.

Yeah, that was a pretty hardcore episode.  What an incredibly fucked up war.

I knew Nixon was a crook, but that guy was a piece of shit.
