The Expanse, despite being in its best season to date, got canceled. Here's hoping that it gets picked up by Netflix or something.

If not, at least I have the books.

Fuck.

Oh wow, that's a good show! That's a real bummer. It was a good sci-fi storyline set in a time when the solar system is being populated. Lots of advanced tech and political drama, and the cast is very good.

Another one that SyFy channel canceled is Dark Matter which I also really liked. DM was doing well but I read it was cancelled partly because it wasn't a SyFy original, it was purchased by SyFy so was more expensive. Something like that.

That's the same reason why Expanse got cancelled. They don't own it so they don't make any money off it past the broadcast.

Would be surprised if Netflix doesn't pick it up, since they already own all the territories outside the US.

I'm really hoping you're right about Netflix picking it up. Judging from the ratings, the show is actually doing marginally better than the 2nd season in terms of ratings. Could be that Syfy was hoping for an even bigger increase, though?
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Sad, and I don't understand why they don't make money off of it. Maybe they should adjust how their business model given that they're cancelling two good shows that had a strong audience. This can't be good for their business.

They don't make any money off of it because not that many people watch it on their station when it airs. The ratings just aren't that strong.

It's the traditional model, and it's steadily dying off.

So I guess Sharkando CCXXII will be more profitable.  :glare:

Admiral Yi

Watched ep 1 of Patrick Melrose.  Benedict Cumberbatch is an upper class heroin addict with daddy issues.  In ep 1 he finds out his father has died, he takes a lot of drugs, he goes through withdrawal, he takes more drugs.

Enough for me.

Habbaku

That sounds tragically boring.

Gups

I thought Melrose was brilliant, one of the best things I've watched for ages (I've read the books so that may make a difference). Not a big fan of Cumberbatch but he was superb.

Yep, that's more or less what happened. The show was already on thin ice last season, but Syfy decided to give it another year.

Also, the first season of The Expanse was Syfy's show with the best ratings at the time, but now they have several that outperform it. So I guess they feel they can safely cancel it.

Netflix Japan is really doing some interesting stuff.
I already really enjoyed The Town Where only I am missing.
Now I've started watching "Million Yen Women". On the surface its a standard drama take on harem anime. Single guy lives in a house with 5 female archetypes.
But they've decided to make it a bit more 'adult'. The main character isn't some innocent nice guy, he visits a prostitute. And his dad is a murderer.  Kind of clunky and artificial but...hey ho.

Also I saw Black Panther- ...not seeing the big love here. Its interesting stylistically and I guess young African kids have reason to go crazy for it...but kind of meh.

Also Free State of Jones- this was good. Very nice socialist message. I can't recall a better handling of flashes to a different time period.

Watching American Gods somehow brought me to rewatch Deadwood (well, Ian McShane mostly). Damn, that show was so good. One of the all time tragic cancellations.

Grey Fox

I don't think SyFy not renewing The Expanse is that big a blow. Lots of payout money for the producers from every other countries either from Netflix or Bell Canada.

Alcon is not letting go this easily.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

But luckily, because of the cancellation, we got John From Cincinnati.

No, no!  I am serious.  Deadwood was cancelled so that David Milch could accelerate the development of John From Cincinnati - which HBO decided to cancel after the second episode aired.

Speaking of McShane shows which were cancelled far too soon, I really want to rewatch Kings some time.  I bought the series years ago and loaned it out.  Time to track it down.  A good, though flawed show that was never given a legitimate chance. :(
