The Anime Poll

Went with #2. Ive seen Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, a few episodes of Bleach, Elfen Lied, and Outlaw Star. Haven't watched any for a while though; I've got Death Note and the rest of Outlaw Star sitting on my hard drive.

You should probably finish Outlaw Star...of course, my reccommending it should probably send you screaming to the hills if you believe some of my fellow Languishites.

Outlaw Star is good and Death Note great until it jumps the shark, you'll know when.

Ugh, I k now what you're talking about. I still had to read it the whole way through. And I'm still a Kira worshiper.

Never read a page of an anime book nor seen a minute of an anime movie.  I'm actually not 100% sure what the term exactly denotes.  So I am pretty indifferent to it on balance. 

As a library employee, I found shelving anime books to be a pain in the ass because of its reversed order, and because the call number section was so overstuffed with material.  So I guess that gives me a mild dislike.  But now when I'm at the local public library, I enjoy seeing the oddball young kids of all races digging into their crazy anime with such pleasure.  So it equals out.

Oh yeah, and plenty of serialized TV show DVDs.  I have been reluctantly privy to a lot of parent-child arguments over how many DVDs the youngsters could check out.   

Our library just started carrying bluray movies and wii games.

Anime's essentially a stylistic choice.  I somewhat dislike its aesthetic in comparison to American animation.  Nevertheless, unless it is really exaggerated, it doesn't detract, and after all it is animation, and hence bound to suffer from simplification of one kind of another.  Manga, on the other hand, has no excuse for embracing this aesthetic, and is almost entirely artistic crap.

I have found a great number of anime productions very entertaining, and a great number quite awful.

Man, they almost make me sympathize with Hansie, so biased they are.

Voted for the demon squids, incidentally, although usually I would have voted "It's okay on occasions" because I agree it's a medium, not a genre.

If I was biased I would have simply made it binary.

I am not a great fan of anime but there are some real gems especially when you compare what the competition had to offer in the '70s or 80's. Hanna Barbera/GI Joe/Transformers/Rambo cartoons vs Albator (Captain Harlock)
Current feature film favourite is probably Akira which is available in a great Blu-Ray edition in Japan and in North America (best sound ever on Blu-ray folks) with its state of the art pre-CGI animation.

Plus, I get to make fun of Ségolène Royal with her infamous comments about how Japanese cartoons are more dangerous for French youth than the Islamic scarf. Talk about about talking about apples and oranges...
Even cosplayers are preferable to Islamism but for the most dhimmis out there
As a matter of fact, France is where manga and anime are the most popular, after Japan of course.

It's okay on occasion.  I do like Studio Ghibli.

Ditto. There are obvious exceptions. Most of the TV series stuff (and by most I mean 99%) is dreck but there are lots of great stand alone movies done "anime" style.

I created this Poll mostly so I could say "Roman Polanski of Squid demons".  Anyway there are worse Poles on Languish.
