No red lines for Gaza anymore.
No jews, no news I guess

Quote from: Admiral Yi on Today at 03:42:36 AMRaz's point is that it is the same people who's deaths you lamented so vigorously before who are dying now, but with a different killer.  All you have to do is say that's bad and it kills his argument.

That's bad. I also agree that a lot of "pro-palestinian" groups are anti-semitic.

Quote from: Razgovory on Today at 01:13:00 AMHamas is killing Palestinians and none of the "Pro-Palestinian" groups are bothered by that because they don't actually give a fuck about Palestinians.  They hate the people fighting the Palestinians. And we both know that to be true, and there is no kind of lie you can make up about me loving Netanyahu that will change or even obscure that fact.

I think the same. Now what?

Something everyone needs to understand is Europe is deeply antisemitic.

The Islamism that now defines modern Europe creates a central nucleus of Jew hate and anti-Western thought. But that isn't the full story--if antisemitism in Europe was confined to their Muslims, it would still be a large problem but not a systemic one. But you can see huge crowds of Scandinavian Norwegians waving around terrorist flags, chanting for mass murder of Jews etc. These are Nazis. They are the enemies of the Israel and by extension the United States.

The U.S. should pursue closer relations with other countries like China and India, and distance itself from hateful countries like Norway, Spain, etc.

And for good reason, Hamas is a terrorist organization.  What would be the point?

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Now I am happy.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

What is the point of the Irish marching in support of Palestine or Canadians against nuclear weapons?

To put pressure on governments.

Protests to put pressure on terrorists doesn't make much sense to me.

What was the point of demanding that Starmer arranges a cease-fire?

I appreciate the difference in scale of bombing people's home from the air and shooting them into ditches but apart from that the only difference is who is doing the killing.

To put pressure on governments.

Protests to put pressure on terrorists doesn't make much sense to me.

They can pressure their governments to ban Hamas, or to encourage the government to work towards destroying the organization.

But really, the point of those protests is to be seen engaging in a publicly popular position.  It's shoring up moral credentials.

Quote from: Tamas on Today at 10:05:52 AMWhat was the point of demanding that Starmer arranges a cease-fire?

I appreciate the difference in scale of bombing people's home from the air and shooting them into ditches but apart from that the only difference is who is doing the killing.

The difference, as CC already pointed out, is that Starmer is both someone with power to influence the situation, and someone who could potentially be swayed by protests and demonstrations.  Hamas doesn't give a fuck about Western demonstrations, and won't be influenced by any Western governments, so there's no point in having them.

It doesn't matter that some of the protestors are unrealistic in their demands, and some are disingenuous and using this as cover for their anitsemitism.  The protests are happening because the (non-disingenuous) protestors think they can influence the situation for the better.

Hamas has been a designated state sponsor or terrorism, and thus blacklisted in the West, for decades.  Why would people protest to do something that their governments did a long time ago?  Also, short of boots on the ground in Gaza what do you want Western governments to do that they aren't already doing?

What was realistically expected of Starmer to do in terms of the Jewish vs Arab shooting that cannot be realistically expected to be done by him regarding the Arab vs Arab shooting?
