QuoteDominion sues Trump lawyer Sidney Powell for defamation, seeks $1.3 billion
Powell has made a variety of baseless accusations of wrongdoing concerning Dominion, some of which have fueled conspiracy theories pushed by the president.

Dominion Voting Systems, one of the biggest election equipment manufacturers in the U.S. and the subject of numerous incoherent conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, has sued lawyer Sidney Powell, who pushed President Donald Trump's attempts to overturn election results, for defamation.

"Powell falsely claimed that Dominion had rigged the election, that Dominion was created in Venezuela to rig elections for Hugo Chávez, and that Dominion bribed Georgia officials for a no-bid contract," the lawsuit states.

Powell didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Dominion is requesting damages of more than $1.3 billion, saying it has spent millions on security for its employees and on damage control to its reputation, and risks losing future business.

A Dominion employee who was harassed by Trump supporters previously sued Powell and others. In December, Dominion sent cease-and-desist letters to some conservative media outlets that pushed the election theories, including Fox News and OAN, which led to them walking back their claims.

Claims of voter fraud have been widely rejected.

Election experts have uniformly declared that the 2020 election was conducted fairly. A union of every senior federal and state official who oversaw the election declared it "the most secure in American history." Election security experts, many of whom popularized the notion of hacking voting machines to increase awareness of the vulnerabilities in election systems, found that "in every case of which we are aware, these claims either have been unsubstantiated or are technically incoherent."

That has not stopped Trump and his supporters from making a variety of evidence-free claims that the election was stolen. Some of the most widespread claims targeted Dominion, which supplied voting systems to 28 states.

I think the federal government will have to get into the business of building voting machines. :bleeding: What company in their right mind would want the PR associated with making the voting machines after this?

Lets see how this law suite works out.
If they get even a fraction of that billion I'm tempted.

Or, you know, ditch the machines and use paper ballots like normal countries...

Time to pivot again:

The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!

Sidney Powell has spent the past few months creating a defense for herself in this lawsuit: insanity.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I found part of this...scary and interesting.

The BBC interviews some representative Americans with their typical BBC 'both sides are valid!' approach.
One of them is heartening, an older republican who says this is beyond the pale, another though, a young republican woman...

Quoteaylor is a staunch Trump supporter and recently travelled to Washington DC for a post-election pro-Trump rally. A photographer by trade, she was upset by the rioting but believes unsubstantiated claims that left-wing radicals were behind the violence.

It was just heart-breaking to watch what was going on and the behaviour of protesters is just not like the Trump people I've been around. If it did come from any conservatives, then I condemn it. There's no excuse for violence.

It doesn't change my support for Trump. The people that love Trump, that's not going to change no matter if he gets a second term or not. It just means we're going to hold out for 2024 and hope either he runs again or his kids do.

Our country is going to go downhill over the next four years if Biden does take office. I'm actually moving today out of the city into the suburbs of a Republican county because I am afraid of how Democratic counties will end up under a Biden presidency.

We're going to catapult towards socialism and communism. I'm worried for the country's future, but regardless of who takes office, we have a lot of healing to do. I hope we can all find our common humanity and embrace each other when this is all over, which is hopefully soon.

:bleeding:
Fucking cultists.

As President @realDonaldTrump stated last night, it is time to heal and move on.

If Speaker Pelosi pushes impeachm ent in the last days of the Trump presidency it will do more harm than good.I'm hopeful President-elect Biden sees the damage that would be done from such action.

Speaker Pelosi is hanging by a political thread, and Senator Schumer lives in fear of a primary from the radical left.

It is up to President-elect Biden to step in and allow the nation to heal.

Any attempt to impeach President Trump would not only be unsuccessful in the Senate but would be a dangerous precedent for the future of the presidency.

It will take both parties to heal the nation.

So since the country won't move towards 'socialism and communism' since, you know, Biden isn't a socialist or communist, what are these people going to do to slander him and the Democrats next?

What he does and doesn't do won't matter nearly as much as what they *believe* he does or doesn't do. Facts matter not.

Yeah, I guess you're right... no matter what he does or doesn't do, he'll be moving toward 'socialism and communism'.

I guess this is a religion to these people.  Maybe we would have been better off with a state religion so they didn't need to go find one.  At least mainstream Christianity isn't totally crazy.

The most painful thing about it is when they say socialism they usually explain this as 'like Venezuela'.
....
Trump is the most Chavezian president of all time.

Its interesting really, whilst the term socialism has been seeing a recovery with sane views growing amongst many, the McCarthyist "Socialism means bad" views are kicking in in opposition to this. America really does need some sharp democratic reform to get rid of this binary culture wars dominated bollocks.

Well a big part of the problem is our two-party system.  If we had a multiparty system like a lot of Euro countries these folks could belong to the Totally Bonkers Party where they'd get to express their views, but also be restricted to a few seats in Congress.
