Costumes are on point, gotta give him that.

From carnival, which is a big occasion in his home region.
It's Markus Söder, current governor of Bavaria. Fairly conservative for German standards and a male, so I guess Trump would indeed like him better than Merkel.

That's five people, Zanza.

They'll stand on top of each other and put on a really long trenchcoat.

One of several bad choices on the Union side vs even worse choices among everyone else.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I would prefer Olaf Scholz over Markus Söder. Not sure about Robert Habeck. All three better than Friederich Merz (evil) or Admin Laschet (boring) or Norbert Röttgen (without chance).

Anyway, to get back on track: all possible candidates are males, so Trump might like them better than Merkel.

What happened with the heir presumptive to Merkel that was quickly discarded last year?

Edit: I had to look up her name, I meant Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.

There were lots of party internal struggles, culminating in a crisis over government formation in Thuringia where she could not really rein in the local party head. Merkel publicly distanced herself on a foreign trip and that meant she was done as party head and heiress presumptive. The conservatives will now elect a new party boss - the three candidates I list above as evil, boring, and without chance. However, the conservatives have a sister party in Bavaria and their party leader (carnival guy) is now the frontrunner for the common candidacy. Merkel gave him very public photo ops recently. She is still the grey eminence of her party.

No, I assume that he is hostile to Germany and this is just amplified by Merkel being a woman and smarter than him.

What are the chances Trump will be smarter than the next German leader?
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

The Germans could get a lump of green jello as their next leader - that would be an awfully close evaluation to make...
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.
