Different but it reminds me a bit of the story of women's football here. I mentioned before but the biggest attendance (I think still) in the UK for a game of women's football was at Goodison in the 20s with over 50,000 people watching. It was suppressed by the FA for decades - and as ideology always does - made the fact that it wasn't as popular seem natural.

Most of them have sizes and densities more comparable to counties.
Many completely lack an actual city part where you can walk around and are just endless suburbia.
