While true, the Right has been particularly frothy over Hillary, Pelosi, Obama, and Maxine Waters over the past several years to decade plus.  I don't think anyone else can come close to reaching the level of instant base rallying that invoking any of those four can.

Coming right up: Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez.

The Republican base hates anyone and everything that is not them, so that's not really a factor.  You could elect Santa Claus House Speaker and Fox would run a hatchet story on him.

I'm not sure we should sideline blacks and women just because they illicit more Republican hate.
Thankfully, there are plenty of other worthy members of both groups to draw upon within the Democratic party who don't have years worth of warchests filled via hate and fear that can used against them.

I often stated, "One way or the other, Mexico is going to pay for the Wall." This has never changed. Our new deal with Mexico (and Canada), the USMCA, is so much better than the old, very costly & anti-USA NAFTA deal, that just by the money we save, MEXICO IS PAYING FOR THE WALL!

To be fair, she gives us an awful lot of material.

There are no minority or female candidates that won't illicit the same kind of hate that these people have.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I don't get it - why is some first term member of congress suddenly such a big deal?  I know winning the nomination over an established member was news at the time, but why has that continued?

She represents an extreme, thus makes for an excellent strawman.

Pelosi as Speaker is a boon to Republicans on multiple levels.  Incompetence, Democratic infighting, stoking the Republican base's hatred of her, further alienating young Democratic voters, and more. <_<

The Republicans ran ragainst Pelosi in the last election and failed horribly.  It's a bad strategy because Pelosi isn't the standard bearer of the Democrats, speaker or no speakership.  She isn't going to pull a Gingrich.  The focal point is going to be the 2020 nominee, and that won't be Pelosi.

She's young, she's pretty, she connects well with the common person and her views are unapologetically leftist.  Naturally the far left is going to adore someone like that (Vox just ran an article saying that the age requirement to run for president should be eliminated so that she can run in 2020.)  More right-ish news sources are going to harp on her obvious poor grasp of policy implying that she stands for all Democrats.

It's hard to say in the age of Twitter but I think we're nearing the end of her celebrity.  Once she has to shoulder the actual burdens of government she'll either have to make compromises, or she'll be an ineffective congresswoman.  The latter might be great in the eyes of Vox; but probably not so much in the eyes of her constituents.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
