Typically the latter...and as a full-bird Colonel, she almost certainly has her 20 years and would be able to retire.
Greenland is the worst peace time posting we have.  Where else can they send her?

It's still a good investment, come the collapse of US society it'll be an ideal survivalist refuge*

Seriously, after Jensen carve out for his advanced gpu to China, this was becoming untenable for others.

There must be have been a lot of lobbying (investment in TRUMP$) made this last week.

This is hilarious. So hitech products like phones and laptops will continue to be made in China but the production of rubber ducks, cheap toys and novelties will be reshored to the USA

I hope the minimum wage serfs who will manufacture them enjoy their new jobs.

MAGA propaganda is a hell of a drug

QuoteTake the case of Gustavo Garagorry, a proud Trump voter originally from Venezuela. He is angry at former President Joe Biden because his idol, Trump, is deporting his family.

"The Democrats are always toying with migrants' emotions. But they've not done anything but create chaos and make promises they can't keep," Garagorry, a naturalized U.S. citizen, said.

Right, Democrats—who let his family in—can't keep promises if you vote for Republicans instead

And it's even worse than that. Garagorry blames Biden because, rather than a law, he used executive action to reform immigration, which could easily be undone.

But why did Biden use executive action? Because the Republican Party refused to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill. And why did they do that? Because Donald Fucking Trump told them to stop working with Democrats on a solution!

But sure, blame Biden instead of Trump, the guy who is actually deporting your family!

Propaganda is a hell of a drug.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Democrats should only ever do things Republicans agree with.

Though actually that is an impossible strategy. What Republicans agree with isn't clear.

Also we passed plenty of laws, such as creating the Consumer Protection Bureau, that was easily undone. Creating a law doesn't really do shit.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on April 12, 2025, 11:41:35 AMTrump told a half truth - he is doing deals and people are coming begging for relief.  Unfortunately, those people are American lobby groups, not foreign countries.
I often think about the Martin Amos line on Trump having a crocodilian nose for the decrepit GOP ripe for taking over.

And I don't think it's consciously planned this way - but Trump's tariff preferences are also a fantastic opportunity for corruption. Especially if the imposition of tariffs and exemptions from them live within the (personalised) executive.

Similarly the closest I have to a conspiracy theory on Musk is one I'm not sure is true or, if it is, conscious. But I can't help but think of Musk's obsession with an "everything app" and background in payments - and DOGE glomming on to government payments and wondering if that's the direction of travel with Twitter as interface with the Federal state for individuals.
Let's bomb Russia!

The people most likely to take such jobs in the United States are those that are targeted for deportation by the US government.

I was critical, vocally so, against Dubya. Obama too.
The sheer back-and-forth stupidity of Trump 2.0, though, it certainly makes Dubya, hell, even Hoover look like prime examples of leadership.

A drunk, dead Ulysses S. Grant would be better than this.

Admiral Yi

Did you not get the memo?  Grant has been rehabilitated.

As a recent visitor to the White house remarked "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Dubya dined alone".
