I suspect this is the reason Trump has backed down. He was expecting the first but not the second. The stock market tanking was WAD, but the bond yields going up weren't.

Related I find it interesting that although Trump has fired (or his people have fired) everyone in sight, Jay Powell still has his job despite Trump's clear dissatisfaction with him.  That also supports the hypothesis that bond vigilantism still holds some sway.
