Nada. I suppose soon I will have to give up my bohemian ways and start paying out the butt - but for now it is still just me and my clippers. Actually, rather timely as I'm due to whack it all down tonight in time for my holiday.

Well we do have a holiday coming up.

Oh fun fact: I came to work yesterday even though it was LBJ's birthday which is a state holiday. Comp time for me

I should have stayed home and contemplated his glorious policies.

In an effort to honor LBJ, I hope you committed some election fraud or conducted business while taking a shit.  Johnson was an expert at those two activities.

And the UK also has Monday as a holiday, so it is a holiday weekend. :blurgh:

This is a weird thing about America - on one hand you guys are so egalitarian, on the other you have some really weird cult of personality shit like having public holidays on presidents' and generals' birthdays. Even monarchies usually limit themselves to the *current* monarch.

UK holidays are very ulititarian. There are three holidays on Mondays just because they are Mondays - and noone really needs another reason (like this being some social, religious or historical celebration).

We are?  :hmm:

I think we like to pretend we are, though.

It is supposed to inspire the current generations to greatness. Anyway this is a State Holiday not a Federal one, for the local boy done good.

Hey not every member of the elite used their connections to attend an Ivy League school.

Most of the holidays have a historical social/religions reason though (in fact apart from the 3 bank holidays, I think all of the holidays have an explicit one - and UK only has 8 or so mind you). And Early May Bank Holiday, I believe is just what UK changed to so that there was no link to socialist May Day. Spring Bank Holiday being replacement for what was Whit Monday. Only one I can think of that doesn't quite have a reason is this coming one.

I run the trimmer over my head once or twice a week, so 0.

Great idea. My hair has been thin for years and I've often considered doing something similar.

In former times we did have something called "Saint Monday" here in England. Essentially it was a matter of dissolute workers boozing it up on a Sunday, instead of going to church, and then taking the following Monday off as a holiday.

These are the holidays I get:

New Years
MLK Day
Memorial Day (for veterans)
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas

And that is it. That is probably fairly standard, although some people may get holidays like Veterans Day, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, or the day after Thanksgiving off (those are probably the most common).

Government offices get more holidays, and states governments go by their own rules. So if you hear about state holidays, it will seem like we have a lot because we have 50 states doing their own thing. But you also have to keep in mind that unless you are a government worker most people aren't affected by other holidays.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)
