Admiral Yi

I've heard the term before.  Maybe Dickens?

Tonitrus

I had heard of hobnobs.

Its a standard cooking appliance/part of an oven.

But it's not a standard term for it. :contract:

Once again Tyr proves to be the most widely travelled insular man on Languish.
Because I use the standard English term and other people are completely ignorant of it?

You're the ignorant one who doesn't know the term isn't used anywhere else. :contract:

I'm leaving. Pretty much made up my mind already. Conditions at the company are quite poor, and it is clear to me now that they are by design. Though why this is the case I can't understand. This is not the kind of job where you want high staff rotation. Basically the problems are long hours (which is normal during commissioning but not for regular office work), frequent and poorly planned travel and a toxic management culture. This leads to people leaving and newbies joining which leads to even more workload/travel/stress in a vicious circle.

Where I go I don't really care. Germany, Spain, UK ... I'll consider any interesting offer.

My German is still really poor, though. The technical staff is made of expats like me, the contractors I oversee speak English and I don't have time to study. This makes it harder to get another job in Germany.
In Spain employee notice can be given with only two weeks, which makes finding a job more complicated there as well.

At least I'm not in a hurry.

Good luck.

Can I entice you to a job in America? We have shitty healthcare, no required vacation time off, and you will likely be asked by some citizens to go back to Mexico, but you can get free coke refills at most establishments.  :)
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

:hmm:

Dunno if international property listing sites have auto-generated listings or not, but the period-comma difference really seems to mess them up.

I encountered it recently for the first time in a British children's book I was thinking of reading to my students. I instantly disqualified it! :menace:

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Being unaware of someone's unawareness of something simple  and using it just because it's the word to use in that situation ranks as less ignorant than not even recognizing the existence of the word.

God help us if that goes away.  Won't be able to entice anyone to come here
