Huh. I don't remember those at all.

I remember those.  I used to beat up the kids who did them.

The Versailles Treaty and successive agreements is causing problems for the potential bid of Hamburg for the 2024 Olympics, because the concept intends to make use of the Moldauhafen area

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moldauhafen

QuoteMoldauhafen (Vltava port) is a lot in the port of Hamburg, Germany, which has been leased since 1929 pursuant to the Treaty of Versailles to Czechoslovakia. In 1993, the Czech Republic succeeded to the rights of Czechoslovakia,[citation needed] and the lease is set to run until 2028.

The lot of about 30,000 square metres (322,917 sq ft) is not an exclave, since it is not sovereign Czech territory. Previously, a similar arrangement existed for the port of Stettin, now Szczecin, Poland.

The 1919 Treaty of Versailles stated in articles 363 and 364:[1]

Article 363
In the ports of Hamburg and Stettin Germany shall lease to the Czecho-Slovak State, for a period of 99 years, areas which shall be placed under the general regime of free zones and shall be used for the direct transit of goods coming from or going to that State.

Article 364
The delimitation of these areas, and their equipment, their exploitation, and in general all conditions for their utilisation, including the amount of the rental, shall be decided by a Commission consisting of one delegate of Germany, one delegate of the Czecho-Slovak State and one delegate of Great Britain. These conditions shall be susceptible of revision every ten years in the same manner. Germany declares in advance that she will adhere to the decisions so taken.

The deal thus allowed the landlocked country free ports where goods transported over the Vltava and the Elbe or the Oder, respectively, could be transferred to seagoing ships in Hamburg or Stettin without the interference of a third state.

Even though Germany had already declared in advance that it would follow the decisions of the Commission, the lease was formalised in an agreement between Germany and Czechoslovakia, signed in Prague on 16 February 1929.[2]

The lot was leased for 99 years. Until 2002, the Moldauhafen was used by the company ČSPL, before it went bankrupt.

With the abandonment of the Treaty of Versailles after World War II, the lease now has the character of a private contract between the city of Hamburg as property owner and the Czech Republic.

Back in 2000 Cincinnati made a bid for the 2012 games.  That was cute.

Facebook did some personalized notification wishing me a Happy Women's Equality Day.

Apparently women got the right to vote on this day 95 years ago.  I guess in a way I participate in women's suffrage :)

You, sir, empower women to vote as you tell them. That's not nothing.

New shoes are empowering.  Making your husband happy even more so.

Next week I head to Denmark.
I'll spend by first night in Helsingfors (arrive pretty late so that its dull is no concern, I want to see the castle) then cross over to Sweden for a day then my other 2 days in Copenhagen.
I am wondering- where should I stay in Sweden; Lund or Malmo?

I haven't heard Helsinki been called Helsingfors for decades, so I assume you mean Helsingør, in which case, yes it is boring but the castle is nice.

Of those I'd pick Malmø, just much more interesting even if you're a week late for the music festival.

Woops, yes, Helsingor.

I know a girl who is living there so I'll just go and have a drink with her on the night then look around before hopping on the boat in the morning.

So Malmo has a fair amount of night-time things to do (it will be a Friday). Or spend the extra and go for another night in Copenhagen? :hmm:

How do Russians distinguish people named "Garry", from people named "Harry"?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

They just don't.  It's spelled the same way.
