Just saw a compilation of some of our Queen's New Year's speeches from 1975 - 2012 where she warns us about losing ourselves in new technology, be it cheaper air travels, e-mails, texting, cyperspace, etc.

We have not heeded her warnings. :(

Imagine a world consumed by new technology (air travels, emails, texting, cyperspace, etc) EXCEPT in the UK. Historians reflecting on why the UK is an outlier point to the 1988 Queen's New Year's speech which warned of these things, and her subjects were listening.

Why the UK?

Failure to recognize that there is more than just one queen.

I don't think it would be any more interesting than the existence of Amish country.

Crap. And to think I had Freddy Mercury as my avatar for so many years.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

And AR being such a jet-setter with international experience and all.

Yeah, how strange that he would have a post that doesn't fit with his persona.

Oooh... harsh.

Please. I don't have just "a persona". I'm sure that post fits in with one of them.

I'm not seeing the inconsistency. Should he be reading more on the plane?

One presumes that someone who is well travelled and cosmopolitan would be less likely to confuse different countries than someone who is more parochial.

Perhaps he has never paid attention to Liep.

That is possible, of course :(

Still, if that is the case, attempting to make clever remarks about people you are ignorant about sets one up for looking ridiculous.

I don't think Dorsey has made any claims to being cosmopolitan.  :hmm:

I can end this mystery. I see a reference to the Queen's speech, don't particularly notice the poster or the "our", and assume it is QEII because that is the vast majority of queen's speech references I see. Jake busts me on something, and I remember, "oh yeah, she is the queen of all the commonwealth, not just UK".

I know Liep is from Denmark, which I know has some sort of royal family.

Yeah, I started to dispute that too.  :P I have Ray Lewis as my avatar.
