What really irks me is how many Canadian stores are starting to have "Black Friday" sales.  Hell I heard an ad that Canadian Tire is going to have a Red Thursday sale ("It's like Black Friday but it's on Thursday, and it's Red").

It's not our holiday! :ultra:

By all means, feel free to find a new continent.

Good.  This is one of those examples where a little coercion from the government can do a lot of good.  I find Black Friday to be one of the most unseemly holidays imaginable, it's a celebration of vapid consumerism, and there is no reason to ruin Thanksgiving as well with it.

The only thing I can see caring for are the individuals who don't have any choice but to work on a holiday (though I suppose overtime could potentially be some comfort). But beyond that, it is up to individual people if they want to let commercialism in. I don't do anything on black friday.

We were here first.

Besides - I don't care if you guys have Black Friday sales or not - I'm just irked at Canadian stores that do because it doesn't make any sense.

If it makes you feel any better there are some stores in Metro Detroit that have Boxing Day sales.  :yucky:
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

I like to go to the Big Box stores in the afternoon and see the carnage.  It is pretty incredible how trashed out Target and Wal-Mart are by 3 PM or so.

At least Boxing Day sales make sense on a purely practical level (it's still the day after Christmas on both sides of the border, and some people want to get out of the house after too much holiday togetherness), and because metro Detroit is just across the river and might want to attract Canadian shoppers.

But this Thursday is just a regular day in Canada (unless you listen to Canadian Tire).  Why would you have a big sale on the Friday?

It's your own damn fault for putting an holiday on a fucking Thursday.
:( I didn't think that far ahead.

How were you there first?

In any case, you're the little brother.  If you don't like it, there's some lovely territory of similar climate in Siberia you could settle.

I see nothing celebratory about commemorating the suppression and defeat of the Boxer Rebellion.
Figures the Commonwealthy would celebrate such a racist, imperialist holiday.  So where does 2nd Opium War Day fall on this year?  What are your plans for Boer Concentration Camp Day?

It's from an old tradition where employers would give their servants a "Chiristmas Box" on December 26th.

And Personally, I keep lobbying for Canada to start celebrating Paardeberg Day again, but Ottawa has stopped taking my calls. <_<
