No.  It's the WSJ article which is largely reported from the Greeks.

But it does accord with the IMF version which is that Merkel rejected their proposals and wanted something rather more austere.

I've said this before, but France is the centre of civilization in the west. It makes me happier thinking that I exist in the same world as places like Marseilles, Florence, Toulouse and Venice. There sure are a great number of places that are, each of them, gems beyond measure; inevitably they are found in Europe. It will be a relief to see America's unwholesome dominance of the Western tradition come to an end.

I would spin a conception of reality in which Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans and Richmond were heirs of the more fraternal traditions of Western Europe- lassitude, hierarchy and elan, with a focus more on enjoying life than 'succeeding' in it.

Lettow, apart from the confused geography of what constitutes France, Florence and Venice are really just the focal point of hoards of tourists these days. Marseilles is a poorer city with lots of immigrants.

I'd take Charleston and possibly New Orleans ahead of all of them.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I guess it could have some sort of appeal in a triumph of capitalism over ignorance. Sadly that doesn't seem to be what drove this.

So Germany never actually said they wanted to punish Greece?

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

No.  I said I got that wrong and the accurate comment was that it had to hurt.  There is a difference between wanting to punish someone and just wanting them to hurt.

The small size doesn't help, but I think the idea is that, instead of disappearing, all of Mario's dead bodies just pile up and decay.

Yes. But even for your "hurt" comment, you only have the Greek prime minister as source, not a German official.
