So separatists are already openly discussing the Slovenian war of independence as a possible pathway to independence, and that it all will be Spain's fault for not letting them do it painlessly. I don't think I'm scared enough.

Seriously?  Are the people of Catalonia that oppressed?  Or is it the sort of Oppression you see in Quebec where aren't served American soda in French?

The Catalan president dropped the Slovenian bomb and then retired two days for fasting and prayer in a monastery (I kid you not), while the rest of the Catalan government has been scrambling to put out the fire, and Madrid is now considering taking over the Catalan police force.

The whole thing keeps swinging from drama to farce.

Perhaps, but Charles was the one who retired to a monastery to pray and so forth.

Quim Torra (the president) is a hardcore traditionalist. He loves traditions so much, he even makes up new ones (like when in a recent event he introduced a "traditional Catalan welcoming dance" that was totally made up).

Can't wait for his first visit to England 

Best thing I can say of Torra is that his own government seems to ignore him - which is fortunate given his incendiary rhetoric. Last week he tried to replace the head of the Catalan police after some controversial police action, and his minister (from the same party) said "no" and he was all "ah, okay then".
