One foolproof way to figure out if someone is French, no matter how fluent their English, is the use of the word normally for probably.
I've never met a French speaker who doesn't do this.
And watching a French show on Netflix with English subtitles I find even the English subtitles made this mistake

Well, thing is we actually do need immigrants. Spain's population pyramid is tragic. All these punks voting for anti-immigration parties are going to have a laugh when they reach retirement age.

They will just complain about all the immigrants on welfare stealing their pension money.  People don't start getting a clue at age 70, Trump is proof of that.

This is really a problem across the OECD - the US had been somewhat exempt, but another decade of toxic immigration politics and we will be up the same creek.

That "the right" is obsessed.

I don't know. They talk about it pretty often. 'Snowflake' is all about that and that gets used pretty often as a general slur for left wing people...or young people...or just generally people you don't like.

Read an interesting article on this the other week. Will see if I can find it later.
It hypothesised that a lot off the odd (lack of) sex related trends in Japan are not due to lol, wacky Japan, but rather Japan just being ahead of the curve.

I really don't get the rights obsession with those people into gender politics and non binary gender identity whatnot. You'd think they were running the world rather than being just a handful of harmless oddballs you're unlikely to ever run into.

That doesn't seem a fair characterization. After all, it's the left that made "non-binary gender identity" a thing.

Except the left hasn't done that. The majority on the left don't think about such things at all.
It's a group of fringe odd balls who put a lot of thought into such things. Not at all mainstream.
It's like making fun of Conservatives because they think the world is flat.

It's not something conservatives put much thought into either, beyond reflexive mockery.

The upside of a young city and it surviving a 9.2 quake in the past. The city as whole fared pretty damn well, a few issues with some of the roads and rockslides south of town but damage to property was minimal. My old house ( c. 1941) with no foundation just rolls with these quakes, after quick scan and making sure no leaks of any kind, the worst part was the aftershocks all weekend. They have reported over 1,000, but really of ones large enough to notice was still like 20+ of magnitude 4.5 or higher.

I didn't know who Kellyanne Conway was when she joined the Trump campaign.  For a while I just thought of her in my mind as "George Conway's wife"

Funny now to see all these media stories referring to George Conway as Kellyanne's husband.

Wow, that's something else, to be reminded that forcefully of the natural forces at work.

Good to hear you and your house are ok.   :)
