In Quebec you have a system like the Scandinavians with a government monopoly on alcohol sales?
I learned something today

Yes, since the end of prohibition in ~1919. Our state board was created in 1921.

Some states here have that as well, at least on hard liquor. And I think pretty much every state has a monopoly on distribution.

I'm inclined to think that's not right.  Iowa is definitely the first state that it has come up in conversation for me.

Talking about monopoly distribution.

You're right.  Apparently it's just 17 states that have some form of monopoly.

Weeklong public sector strike in Catalonia. Blocked streets, rallies, etc... It's becoming increasingly tiresome to live here. Ah well, it's not Paris at least.

At least this time the protestors do have a defensible cause instead of separatist/taxi bullshit. The Catalan government has spent years raising the separatist flag while on the side it crippled the welfare state (I know this has some fans over here though  :P).

Argentine beef will once again be imported into the US after 17 long years :)

Fuck. Argie beef joints were expensive enough already without the yanks gorging on it.

Say no to beef imports! AMERICA FIRST!

I'd just like for my local Argie restaurants to be able to use Argie beef for once.

But of course, you will not contribute to destroying American jobs by buying them :P

American cattlemen will be fine, in spite of their whining.

Absolutely.  Free range, grass fed makes a big difference.

Well, you can have that with yank cows, too. It's not that there's a lack of grazing land in Amuhrica.

I suppose that besides having a more established tradition and industry, their local breed just tastes better. Plus their cuts are different and imho better than ours (Spain's).

We can but usually don't.  Grass fed free range beef here is pretty expensive if you can even find it.

I'm sure there's something to that.  And the way it's cooked on the ol' parrilla helps a bit.

I like Argie cuts, but I don't think i could ever give up my NY Strip, Flat Iron, Tri-tip, Filet Mignon, etc.

It may be stating the obvious.
But one thing I've really noticed being back in the UK; it is wet.
No no. I don't mean it rains a lot. It really doesn't. Its November so the weather sucks now but I know this isn't the norm.
No. What I mean is how generally moist the atmosphere is.
In Switzerland  you spill some water on the floor then you can walk away, confident it will dry itself up providing there isn't too much.
In the UK? That water is staying there until you mop it up.
