Yeah Beeb, WTF.

Two summers ago I asked down at the Montreal head shop I frequent if they knew a place I could buy some weed, maybe some place closer so I wouldn't have to schlepp all the way up to Tam Tam.  The girl got a little freaked out and said they're not allowed to do that.

I think head shops understand one little slip up could fuck their legit business.

It's because of BC, the paraphelia shop were all mostly selling weed too.

In Quebec you have a system like the Scandinavians with a government monopoly on alcohol sales?

Some states here have that as well, at least on hard liquor. And I think pretty much every state has a monopoly on distribution.

What I was not expecting in the US were the dry counties.

Ontario has something closer to a tmonopoly on alcohol sales, although that has relaxed a bit over the past few years. I believe in Quebec you can buy wine and beer anywhere, such as at convenience stores, but you can only buy a hard alcohol from government monopoly stores.

I'm inclined to think that's not right.  Iowa is definitely the first state that it has come up in conversation for me.

Talking about monopoly distribution.

No Timmay thread/comment on the excellent news from NASA, successfully landing the Insight robot explorer on Mars.

Looks like less than half of states.

QuoteNow the rooms are all empty down at Frankie's joint
And the highway she's deserted clear down to Breaker's Point
There's a lot of people leaving town now
leaving their friends, their homes
At night they walk that dark and dusty highway all alone

Well Papa go to bed now, it's getting late
Nothing we can say can change anything now
Because there's just different people coming down here now and they see things in different ways
And soon everything we've known will just be swept away

It does seem to fit surprisingly well to the tune of Papa Don't Preach.
