She's not my bag, but she is no doubt talented. As for coming out of nowhere she's been around for like 20 years, hardly a show up out of nowhere legacy. Her families rich, so that definitely helped her starting out, but that's true of a lot of artists.

Her dating for song material, then doing the pikachu face that people care about her dating life shtick annoys me, but whatever.

As for her sexuality, I always assumed she was gay, whenever I gave any thought to it, which is and was rarely. Putting a front since much of her career revolved around writing songs about relationships. But she could also just be extremely frigid in a way only old money WASPs can be, I suppose.

I point out that the fact that you just heard about her 10 years ago does not mean that she wasn't well-known to the world before that.  It's kind of like when Yi didn't know who the weeknd was.

Edit just did a quick check to see whether she was not known in the UK and it turns out she had a number one album topping the UK charts 12 years ago. I think that was her fourth album by that point.

So really, unless you were living under a rock, or not listening to the radio you would've heard of her.

"appeared out of nowhere"?  WTF?  Your provincialism is showing again Jos.

Her first album came out in (checks) 2006.  She started out doing country music, sure, but she's been a pop musician since 2014, which is 10 years ago now.  While her signing is merely good, she largely writes or co-writes her own songs, which surely means she has quite a bit of talent.

I'm no "Swifty", but give the girl her due.
