Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Great story of British POW who escaped and then travelled Germany to get out in a full Royal Navy uniform posing as a Bulgarian: Lieutenant Bugaroff
Let's bomb Russia!

You'd think they would've confiscated his uniform after the first attempt.

Wouldn't that run afoul of the Geneva convention?

Do you really have to come out if you're already in a RN uniform?

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Wow, an actual choice for once, not "them' or "it".

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I dunno - more often than not they name an actual person.

2020 - Biden/Harris (meh - a push naming two)
2019 - Greta Thunberg (individual)
2018 - "The Guardians" (them)
2017 - "The Silence Breakers" (them)
2016 - Donald Trump (individual)
2015 - Angela Merkel (individual)
2014 - "Ebola fighters" (them)
2013 - Pope Francis (individual)
2012 - Barack Obama (individual)
2011 - "The Protestor" - (them)
2010 - Mark Zuckerberg (cyborg, but an individual)
2009 - Ben Bernanke (individual)
2008 - Barack Obama (individual)
2007 - VLadimir Putin (individual)
2006 - "You" (them, and the stupidest of them all)
2005 - "The Good Samaritans" (them)
2004 - George W Bush (individual)
2003 - "The American Soldier" (them)
2002 - "The whistleblowers" (them)
2001 - Rudy Guiliani (individual)
2000 - George W Bush (Individual)

So that's 12 individuals, and 8 "thems" in the last 21 years.

How dare you call me stupid.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

This one is the cringeiest.
