Presumably he used a more common device than bamboo socks.

Bamboo socks are best

Actual bamboo fiber, or bamboo rayon like those sold by "Bamboo Sport"?  Bamboo rayon can't be produced in any country with environmental regulations because the process is so toxic.  I will never buy socks made from that shit.  Even plastic is more environmentally friendly.  I don't believe I've seen an actual bamboo fiber sock advertised, but I'd be interested to see some info on such a sock.

I bought a raincoat today, turns out it's the first piece of clothing, excluding shoes that I've bought in 4 1/2 years.   :hmm:

How on earth do you manage to make your socks last that long?

He has a second pair and washes the pair he isn't wearing.  Try it.

:D

@Agelastus, the question is, how are your socks not lasting that long?  I have socks older than some of the posters here.  :P

Yeah, I end up rag-binning my socks because of lost elasticity rather than wearing out.

...

Interesting - I would very much doubt I've ever had a pair of socks that's lasted more than a couple of years.

I can only think of a couple of possible contenders for that honour over the last 40 plus years - both sets being wool socks rather than cotton IIRC.

Yeah, pretty sure I have some socks over a decade old.
Helps that I don't wear socks indoors I guess?

Possibly - I do wear socks indoors.

I haven't worn socks in years.  They kept getting wet when water came up through the holes in my shoes.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. You need to replace your shoes when they get holes in them.

Love this channel, Latin intelligibility vs. Romance speakers, Old Norse vs. Scandi languages, this channel has it all.

Yeah, I remember being gobsmacked with the Old English episodes on this channel because of the incredible sense of connection that I as an Icelander felt to the Old English language.

Saw that the other day. As German it was pretty easy to get most of it.

Yeah, old English was easier than I expected.

The Old Norse one was fun too :)

Yeah. Went as one would expect though. All those assblasted Norwegians in the comments are delusional.

Awful quality but in a similar vein I always loved this bit from an old documentary.

Love how the old guy is clearly a Geordie with a smattering of Dutch words.

On those "What can people understand" bit, do they do one comparing different sorts of English speaker? As I found I got a lot more Swedish than most English speakers did with my northern basis. Alas not as much as my grandfather would have.

Can't.  I need socks to try on new shoes at the shoe store.

Did Eddie Izzard do a documentary on old languages? I'll have to track it down.

The old guy actually is a Frisian and may not be able to speak a word of Dutch.

Just watched the Latin Vs. Romance languages and it's pretty interesting. It's quite unique to see Latin being spoken fluently, and quite understandable to boot (at least for a Romance language speaker).
