Looks like a job for the police and towing companies.

You hate everything, you're Seedy's replacement & Tim's opposite.

Have you seen the trailer, though?  He's right, it looks bad.

I thought he was talking to Tamas, since Tyrs post was less negative.  :hmm:

Fourth day of taxi protests!

They are threatening to block that street until the Spanish government issues a decree allowing the local government (who has already folded to their demands) to block ridesharing licenses.

That street it's one of the entryways into town, and it's creating utter chaos.

If this sort of blackmail is successful at preventing competition, what's to stop other industries from adopting the same tactics?

Is there a reason they aren't arrested and their cars towed away?
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

It will be successful.

As for why it's allowed, well, it's like 1,000 cars. Neither the socialists in Madrid, the separatists in the regional government, or the far left mayor are going to send in the riot police and own up to the resulting carnage. Heck, I'm not sure they could really evict the small motorized army the taxi unions have drummed up.

Cab drivers in other major cities are now calling for similar actions throughout Spain. This will be fun.

That's neat.  Oldest house in Missouri is some French guy's house in Ste. Geneviere.  Jefferson city also has the oldest synagogue West of the Mississippi river.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Actually, mine would be in the mid-range, as it was built in 1791. :P

I wonder if there is just something evil about easily accessible hired cars that attracts evil/is self-perpetuating. Cab drivers and Uber seem two sides of same coin.
I don't think they are at all.  They're different kinds of scum, and neither is unique.

Cab drivers are part of a rent-seeking guild, without any "ensuring quality" fig leaf.  Few guilds that rely purely on political power to keep their sinecure are particularly pleasant, thankfully we have few of them left.

Uber is just yet another tech company run by brilliant young assholes who have not been humbled yet, and think the world belongs to them.  It's not a problem unique to just ride-sharing tech companies.

Perhaps a fair few cab drivers have similar thoughts about their accountants?   :hmm:

The oldest building in every US state:

That's a neat find, thanks.  If anyone is interested in digging deeper; almost all the states have their own Wikipedia page:

Florida (almost all are in St. Augustine, as you might expect.)

Michigan  (Mackinac Island and Sault Ste Marie lead there.   A number of Metro Detroit's old buildings were destroyed in the fire of 1805 or the War of 1812; many more were destroyed when the city expanded due to the automobile industry.)

And, as a whole:  The United States  (While neither can compare with the native buildings in the southwest; San Juan makes Saint Augustine look youthful.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
