The other day, while driving home from work, I encountered a squirrel in the road twitching and jumping in what looked like agony. I don't know what happened, I just assume a car ran over it and it was dying. So the question is, what was the ethical thing to do?

I considered running it over slowly to put it out of its misery, but decided not to because I wasn't sure what had happened. Perhaps whatever it was, it could have recovered.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

1. That a polling station is in a man's home.
Ours is in a church. That always weirds me out.

My current one is in a church basement. I ain't got a problem.

Ours is in a Christian school.  It does feel odd sometimes to walk into someone else's church.

Mine was in a church.  Where else is it gonna be (other than a school)?  A dedicated polling building?

Churches are well-suited for it, they're large and not typically being used on a Tuesday.

I think mine in SF was a latino cultural center.

Back in Michigan my polling place was in the Old Folks Home.  The Democrat observers kept trying to convince me, on the sly, to vote for Alton B. Parker.

Here in Florida the polling place is at the library.  Florida allows for early voting.  I was unaware of this, and as I was passing the library one Saturday afternoon I saw a platoon of people with placards.  At first I thought the librarians had gone on strike.  It then struck me that I had lived in Michigan for too long.   :(
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Yeah schools, churches and community centres are all pretty normal. I've had to vote in one of the polling portacabins.

I wish mine was a church. I vote in a smelly gym that smells like feet.

Guy I used to work with is a religious Jew, yarmulke and all, refuses to vote cause he has to vote in a church and has to walk past a statue of Yeshua.
