Apparently National Security Council met yesterday. They only discussed one topic: the Falklands. Seems rather striking. I wonder why?

Because this time around there's absolutely nothing you can do about it?

P.S. Hahahahahahahahahahhahahhahahahahahahhhahahahahahahahahahahahaaha.

Jonathan Meades' documentary on France is brilliant.

He's one of my favourite TV documentarists and this is one of the best he's done.  His stuff on totalitarian architecture is brilliant.  He did one on Stalinism and another on Nazi German architecture.  Here's the Stalin documentary:

I thought they discontinued that one.

Stalinist architecture was worse then the gulags.  Actually I hate most of Russian architecture.  Nazi stuff was a bit better, but still not good.  No originality, just make everything big.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

His one on Nazi architecture is also great.  A massive attack on the kitsch.

Here we go again with the fires.

It's windy as hell again too.

As I left work today I saw the fire coming over the hill into a neighborhood called Galena. Lots of people will be screwed over tonight. Oh, and:

Fire near Reno burns homes, cuts short Biden speech

Stoked by 80-mph winds, a brush fire surged through a valley between Reno and Carson City on Thursday, charring at least three homes, threatening more and forcing Vice President Joe Biden to truncate his visit to a local high school.

Flames chewed through sage brush and pine as they headed north toward the more populous Reno area, where a November wildfire sparked by arcing power lines destroyed about 30 homes.

"We are battling Mother Nature," Armando Avina, a Washoe County sheriff's deputy, told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "There is no sign of moisture. If the winds don't cooperate and firefighters have to battle this fire in this wind, the damages could be very substantial."

Smoke choked the air in a neighborhood called Pleasant Valley as deputies went door to door and begged residents to leave their homes. Authorities had already emptied out a nearby elementary school as flames up to 40 feet tall approached.

The tempestuous weather repeatedly hampered Biden's visit to the area in advance of the state's Democratic presidential caucuses this weekend, the Gazette-Journal said. His speech, which was scheduled for 11:30 a.m., was pushed back when fierce gusts forced Air Force Two to land in Fallon, Nev., about 60 miles east of Reno.

By about 1:45 p.m., when Biden began speaking, the smell of smoke wafted through Galena High School, the paper said. The vice president was soon told to wrap up his remarks, as fire officials needed to use the school gym as a command center.

Honestly, you Brits can be hard to tolerate at times.  There's no need to be so vicious nasty.

I don't get the vicious nasty.  He's trenchant and advancing an argument.  Though it's fair he's never knowingly turned away from a compelling phrase.

In his recent one on France I particularly loved his description of Joan of Arc as a 'celebrity witch' and his condemnation of the 'pious shysters of human rights industry'.  There were lots of interesting points in that though.

How are those two not examples of him being viciously nasty?

I just watched that "Jerry Building" show and found it pretty alright. He didn't say anything that German documentaries haven't said on the topic, so I'm not sure where this "viciously nasty" comes from.

Huh.  It's weird, but I just realized I actually enjoyed working today.  It wasn't very hard, I kept up well, I didn't have to do any of the miscellaneous bullshit I don't like doing like peeling potatoes and slicing my hand open, no fucking foreigner yelled at me, I got lots of free food, and I talked to a really hot girl about her thigh tattoo.  I give it a B.
