This seems kinda stupid; just quietly donate some more money to your favourite charities instead?

But the charity in question has noted that since this started they've seen a huge uptick in donations.

You'd never catch me doing anything ridiculous for charity

Putting on short shorts and running from an arbitrarily-designated Point A to an arbitrarily-designated Point B doesn't qualify? :D

If the famous and high-profile people just quietly donated some money, the charity would get a nice little bump in donations.

With the famous and high-profile people doing something silly and public (along with their donation), the charity has seen an enormous increase in donations.

Apparently it cures Lou Gehrig's Disease or something.

It's Cal Ripken Jr's Disease now, thank you very much.

I thought that was baldness.
