Finished Civil War and its tie ins.

That was actually pretty good.

Speaking of which, it looks like a Sandman movie is in the works. I hope they don't ruin it.

What was that, the politically correct Avengers?
PDH!

Can you guys recommend cool comic books? I am looking for something in the style of Sandman or Fables. I heard the Swamp Thing is good.

If you haven't read it, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I & II and the Black Dossier. There are more books, but YMMV on whether you like them or not.

Also, esp. if you like Hunter S. Thompson, Transmetropolitan.

Reading up on some 80s X-Men, and came across this panel:

Sending a photo of the couple in bed? Really?

Who took the picture? :hmm:

I'll second Transmet.  I think Mart would probably enjoy that.

So, started reading the LoEG. Loving it. Reminds me of my gaming group's Aberrant games. :P

Release Dates for the next nine Marvel movies confirmed!

QuoteCheck Out Marvel's Next 9 Movies, Including Black Panther and More Avengers

Did everyone feel that just now? It was the Earth's mantle cracking from the impact of a cultural carpet-bombing by Marvel. As they announced during an event in Los Angeles this morning, they've got 2015-2019 on lockdown—it looks like Phase III is about to be in full effect. (And that's not counting Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man hitting theaters next July. Here are the official release dates for Marvel's next five years:

Captain America: Civil War

In Theaters: 5.6.16

What We Know: The third Cap movie is set after both Winter Soldier and the forthcoming Age of Ultron. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Solder, aka the dark counterpart to Steve Rogers' Captain America, and directors Anthony and Joe Russo are returning as well. (Kind of a darkest-timeline thing going on.) Anyone with super powers is being required to register with the U.S. government and basically work for the authorities. Tony Stark and the Captain are at odds on the impending legislation, and no matter what happens, a fractured Avengers team means bad news for humanity.

Doctor Strange

In Theaters: 11.4.16

What We Know: Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is locked in to direct the script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), and Benedict Cumberbatch is rumored to be all but confirmed to play the titular Doctor, the "sorcerer supreme" of the Marvel universe. We'll see how the first foray into Marvel's mystical side goes!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

In Theaters: 5.5.17

What We Know: James Gunn is coming back to direct the sequel to 2014′s highest grossing movie to date. Also, thank the (star) lord, we get more Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. Other likely reappearances include Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector. Also money. We will definitely see lots and lots more money.

Thor: Ragnarok

In Theaters: 7.28.17

What We Know: Ragnorak was a storyline published in 2004 by Marvel Comics. Feige reportedly described Ragnorak as "The end of all things" at today's Marvel event. So that means bad news for real-life-fake-God Chris Hemsworth and perhaps also his brother Loki, who we have missed dearly since The Dark World. Good news: Tom Hiddelston. Bad news: Armageddon?

Black Panther

In Theaters: 11.3.17

What We Know: Not much yet, other than Chadwick Boseman (who is apparently the biopic king, having played Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up) will be the Panther himself, otherwise known as T'Challa, leader of the fictional African nation, Wakanda.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1

In Theaters: 5.4.18

What We Know: Another one in the "not much" camp. But Marvel did flash an image of Thanos on the big screen when they announced the film today, which means all kinds of bad things for the hero squad – or at least what remains of them by 2018! We have to think this will be the beginning of the resolution of the Infinity Gems story arc (well, sub-arc) that's been strung throughout all of the MCU movies thus far.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

In Theaters: 5.3.19
What We Know:  No one is immune to two-part sequels—NOT EVEN KEVIN FEIGE.

Captain Marvel

In Theaters: 7.6.18

What We Know: Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first female lead Marvel movie! Captain Marvel's name is Carol Danvers, and she'll surely be here to kick ass and chew bubble gum.

Inhumans

In Theaters: 11.2.18

What We Know: This will be Marvel's 20th movie, and Feige says it will introduce "tons of new characters". Here's to 20 more! The Inhumans, FWIW, are part of Marvel's cosmic stories, of which GOTG was the studio's first official title.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Yeah, I posted that in the, you know, movies thread.

I'm usually 5-10 pages behind in that thread.

Yet you paid to watch all of them. Hollywood's business model works.

I have decided to start reading superhero comic books again recently. I used to read quite a bit of them until I quit in the mid-2000s.

Started by going through Astro City's first run. That is a brilliant comic. I loved the lighthearted silver age feel mixed with a more modern take on superhero themes and tropes. Also the fact their main superheroes are pretty recognizable versions of established characters allows the writers to play with their associated themes in fun and interesting ways,
like their version of Batman being an actual vampire or their Superman living a solitary and joyless life because of his devotion to superhero duty.
.

This is a rather old one, but what superhero stuff from the past 7-8 years should I absolutely read?
