So was Poilievre. Until he fumbled.

I am not so sure the Liberals would have rebounded if Trudeau had not resigned.  Carney is polling way ahead of PP as the person Canadians trust most to deal with Trump.  That is not true of any other Liberal.

Pro-Carney voices are going to paint him as an experienced technocratic leader.  Anti-Carney voices are going to paint him as an out-of-touch elitist.

Those seem like two things that are usually true at the same time

Former investment banker, recruited into Canada's finance department, then Governor of the Bank of Canada during the 2008 financial crises.  Later recruited to  be Governor of the Bank of England and saw the UK through Brexit.

Also the first phase of covid - his term as Governor of the BofE ended the day before the UK's first lockdown.

Poilievre's problem is he's an opposition leader.  He literally can't respond like Ford because Ford leads a government.

I think that's his only mode. Current circumstances would have allowed him to play the part of the head of state. He hasn't. I don't think he can: grievance is his grammar.

Yeah.  Politicials need to adopt the AOC and Trump approach.  Address people like they are toddlers or talk like a toddler.  Sure win.  <sigh>

Yeah, I think that is correct. PP's Trumpist rhetoric was always going to hurt him after people saw what a Trumpist government really looks like, whether or not it is fair to say that PP would have gone to the same extremes.

It's my understanding that the BC Conservative Party is full on Trumpist insane, the kind of people who think that Poilievre is caving to wokeness by not ending all immigration.  The kind of people who would fall for Maxime Bernier's grift.
