Marx was hesitant endorse the Paris Commune, for Christ's sake, and Kautsky was *the* major Marxist opponent of the Bolshevik Revolution/USSR, with Lenin branding him a "renegade."

... how so?  In both cases, the source of the income isn't the sale of the harvest?

Rentier refers to deriving income from interest and dividends.

Tricky to make that distinction.  Noble landowners were perfectly willing to diversify their holdings with gilts, whereas merchants and bankers would commonly cap their careers by putting their capital into land.  Eg. David Ricardo who turned his stockbroking fortune into a country estate (and an appointment as high sheriff).

The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

Yep. Many nobles were often either excellent business men and capitalists themselves or were excellent business men and capitalists who became nobles. The noble families who are still rich and important today didn't get that way because they had the most distinguished title or pedigree.

 No true Marxist was involved in the USSR or similar.

But Marx was just following Hegel, Ricardo and Adam Smith.  So really they are to blame.

Come to think about it, it all goes back to Plato.  The greatest mass murderer of history.

I've always been absent-minded (I know, it's shocking that I went on to become an engineer) and as a young child I used to misplace school supplies.  One time I lost all my crayons except the blue-green one.  We had a coloring-book style assignment, so I colored the entire sheet blue-green.  The teacher held it up and told everyone I was lazy ( :(), but at least I'm not inhibited (or a commercial artist.)

Later on, when I was at MOMA I saw this painting by Yves Klein:

I just didn't realize I was a genius at six.   :(
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

You guys know that when you do this to Yi, you are pretty much telling him that his God is a lie?  It's kind of rude.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
