Interesting. IN BC you can combine the 2? Here they are separate cards. And if you don't have a licence you can get a whole other ID Card since as I mentioned the health card doesn't count as valid ID.

The expectations people have toward the state necessitate a national ID system. End of story.

We don't have it for the same reason we still have separate cold and hot taps in places: it wasn't around in 1890 so there is no real need for it.

Tamas, you've got it arse about face, a central thrust of British public life is, 'How do we return things to the state of the Victorian ascendency'.  :bowler:

The can start practicing in the city centers of any decent sized English city before taking on the real deal.

That's exactly the problem. Ukraine is very agriculture heavy.

Tell me something I don't know. It's not corruption that's going to keep Ukraine out of the eu (after the eu itself is quite corrupt.),it's the farmers

Same for people that don't have a drivers license it is then a separate card.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

QuoteBurnham kissed King's hands upon PM appointment - Palace

We can now you bring you the full statement from Buckingham Palace confirming Andy Burnham as prime minister.

"His Majesty received in audience the Rt Hon Andrew Burnham MP and requested him to form a new Administration. The Rt Hon Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King's offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury."

"Ms Marie-France van Heel was also received by His Majesty," the statement adds.

A new dawn has broken, has it not :w00t:

Also with North Sea Gas, IDs and the Thames Water stuff it looks like they've actually thought about things to announce on day one. Radically different to Starmer's approach of announcing that everything's far worse than they imagined but to prove their tough they'd mug the elderly, do nothing for the rest of the summer (allowing Farage to take advantage of the news vacuum) and launch a million reviews and consultations :bleeding: (I enjoyed Baroness Casey noting in her social care review that she has greatly benefited from reading the 22 other reviews into social care commissioned by previous governments  :bleeding:)

Edit: Again I think this is why Starmer thinks he's good at the job - he thinks it's running a large organisation and new CEO comes in, the sensible thing is to do a lot of reviews and listening etc. But that's not what being PM is - you're a political leader who needs to set the direction and also act as teacher/persuader of the people about that through constant communication.
Let's bomb Russia!

There should be a review about why there's been so many reviews :P

Well ending rough-sleeping is a tough first pledge.

Quote from: mongers on July 20, 2026, 06:55:12 AMWell ending rough-sleeping is a tough first pledge.

You know, I don't think it is.
Yet it sounds like it should be so its actually pretty clever.
A quick google I find an article declaring rough sleeping is nearly 100% up on years ago. Which sounds horrific.
But you're still just looking at 4,800 people.

I don't know if it still exists. I think it might have been cut with austerity et al. But Newcastle used to have a zero rough sleepers policy- if you're going to be sleeping on the streets some night call the council and they have beds ready to go for such a situation.

We are just talking ending rough sleeping here and not homelesses altogether.

On the other hand. Do the numbers actually matter or is it all just vibes?
Go back 6 years to when Newcastle had this zero homeless policy and it was known by people working in the area that a lot of the guys in the shelters would wake up early and taking their sleeping bag out to go begging, pretending that they were rough sleeping and needed to pay for shelter beds and all that.
Not many people outside the area of work would know this policy actually existed.

Then of course you've got the rough sleeping by choice. These will always rationally exist. Even with maximum funding for mental health and brilliant shelters there'll always be some.
