Right? What an absolute shit show that is. The Blackwater work was a red flag. The Totenkopf was a huge red flag. The creepy sexting was a red flag. The total lack of prior grassroots efforts was a red flag. The earlier accusations were a red flag. The guy who started his campaign was a red flag. Yet he still had a ton of support and it was growing. You and I don't agree often politically, but I am fully onboard and have been for Platner to disappear.

edit: Actually, we probably agree on a lot politically. Just not your top issue.

So the 250 Years Celebrations came and went. Overall a bit of a damp squib.

Though I guess it would be hard to set up a celebration that brings the nation together. Bipartisanship even on such straightforward issues seems well and truly dead. (Not helped by a narcissist in office who has to make everything about him.)

The US now has 50 years not to fuck it up for the next jubilee

Yeah, it's a real shame.  I think I've posted here before about my experience as a boy being in Washington state during the 200th anniversary.  Through those young eyes it was an amazing celebration of fun and joy.  It went a long way to convince me the United States was the best country in the world. And that helped form my views for a couple of decades.

My views have now of course changed, but I think that is more about the United States than about me.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Platner is dropping out. There is so much time before the election it seems crazy they can't have a special election of some kind but the rules probably forbid it. So will we get that 80 year old lady? Meh.

I am relieved. I was worried he would make everything about him...and he tried he is just really bad at planning and organizing things.

Same. I was worried they'd do a lot of destructive things to a lot of places and instead they just... showed their collective incompetence and inherent patheticness. I feel like they might be speedrunning things now and are going to go full-on "loot and pillage" as their sole mo instead of one of their major ones as the midterms draw near and the fallout from them becomes clear.

Uncertain.  I saw a video on FB from the Maine Democrats saying they would announce the process once Platner had resigned from the course.

Can't be worst than Kentucky Republicans.

Hope they have another Primary, plenty of time.
