It wasn't already?

I just want to state for the record I am anti-slavery.

It's legal here too...just confined to a narrowly approved category.

Also, doing some research on the Afghanistan thing...hard to find any real data or concrete facts other than articles decrying it.

And most of those just point to how the Taliban imposed a new legal code that stratifies classes of people (also bad), one of which is "slave", and then notes how the criminal code adjust depending on your class designation.  (roughly, "elites/nobles" and "scholars" who commit crimes get a talking to...everyone else gets imprisoned/whipped)

So they're implementing a caste system?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Incidentally, the US has privatized chunks of the prison system and one of the highest incarceration rates, globally.  :hmm: Honi soit qui mal y pense.

This never would have happened if they had stuck with Zunism.

You can't blame the Afghans because Microsoft cancelled their music player.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Taliban follows the Hanafi school of jurisprudence.
Crimes are divided into
"Huddud" - serious crimes defined in the Quran like murder, robbery, etc.
"Tazir" - less serious crimes that are defined by local mores and cultural practice like usury, pornography, sale of defective products, etc.

Under the Hanafi school and the Taliban code, the Tazir crimes are punished differently by class.  Huddud crimes are punished the same for everyone, except I believe for slaves, who can receive lesser punishment for certain non-violent offenses because of diminished autonomy.  The Taliban code follows this distinction between Tazir and Huddud.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Afghanistan might have other things to worry about though...

QuotePakistan's defense minister says that there is now 'open war' with Afghanistan after latest strikes

"Our patience has now run out. Now it is open war between us," he said. There has been no reaction from Afghan government officials to Asif's comments.

...

His remarks came hours after Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, as well as in Kandahar in the south and Paktia province in the southeast, according to Pakistani officials and Afghanistan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. Pakistan says the strikes were in retaliation for Afghan cross-border attacks.
