I will say, though, that my son has really enjoyed Asterix & Obelix, and I'm getting him into Spirou a bit as well.

Iirc, our sons share ages. I'll show him those work.

For Comics my daughter really liked Asterix, Tintin, Bone and Usagi Yojimbo.  I was surprised that she took the last two considering she hates any tv or audio that is remotely scary.

The Francois Bourgeon stuff is probably a bit older than 12 (my sons age)... I mentioned it mostly because I really liked it when I was in my mid to late teens.

As a 12-year-old I really enjoyed the Percevan series by Philippe Luguy and Jean Léturgie. That's also impossible to find in English (Fantasy Flight Games bought the rights and did a translation years ago, but they've been out of print for a long time).

Grey Fox

Ok. Thanks for the recommendation.

I still have some albums here, Le Pied Tendre, notably.  Tenderfoot.

The animation does not seem as funny as my childhood book:

Reminds me of that.  British aristocrat arrives in the far west and becomes so well integrated that in the end he joins the other cowboys to "welcome" a tenderfoot once he realizes it's his old nemesis from London.

I still prefer that vintage cartoon animation compared to the more recent attempt. Different media, of course.

Also, did you read La Belle Province album?

It's way after Goscinny and Morris...
Yes, I've read it.  Not bad, but not really on the level of Goscinny and Morris.

Low expectations helped, I guess.  :P

Une procureure et un avocat font tomber un procès d'envergure

For some reason, I can't get Google to translate the page.  You'll have to use your browser.

I believe I have talked about this case before.  Final nail in the coffin came today, the judge canceled the trial.

The Crown prosecutor had an intimated relationship with one of the defense lawyer and it was discovered that information was exchanged.

According to the judge, the defense lawyer softened his negotiation as to not damage his relationship with his lover, one of the crown prosecutor to the case.

That is some serious misconduct.

She was also accused of impaired driving in 2023, and the police had to lay a siege to heir house.  Pleaded not guilty, was able to get back to work.  Fired from DPCP in November 2025, but this didn't seem to have made news.

Don't know what will happen to the defense lawyer.  I suppose the bar will want to have a chat with both of them following this.

Yeah, it's the more environmentally clean version (in so far as mining and smelting goes) and it'll account for 1/3 of the worlds reserve of such a deposit.

That discovery is huge and it's right on rail lines, not remote.  I didn't realize Canada imports all the alumina for our smelters.

PP sails through confidence vote with 87.4% of the vote

From the Globe, nothing was left to chance

QuoteHe and his inner circle had been talking to convention delegates for months to ensure he would sail through the vote, and they left nothing to chance. As delegates headed to cast their ballot, they were handed small white cards with voting instructions to circle "yes to vote for Pierre."

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.
