I think the British government surveils us enough.

What id would you guys use if you don't have government issued ID?

We do have government issued ID like passports or driving licences, there's just no mandatory government ID card like most of Europe.

I think these tools can also do biometric age estimation face scans.

Doing it for porn.... No.
And could maybe help forums make a come back?
Why the first but not the second?
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Fair enough, but Id be more worried about giving away passport info. Spoofs committing crimes in other countries under my name is a good way to ruin a vacation

And biometric scanning required for a wank is too dystopian to contemplate

Fantastic - "it's not working and we strongly back it"

Incidentally there's still a lot more of the OSA to commence so we're only starting to see its delights.

QuoteI don't. I've not interacted much with the UK regulators but I've read hundreds of CRTC paper pages and listened to hours of testimony. They are often clueless.
Just to reply on this - the regulator for this legislation is OfCom which is a bit of a joke in the sector. There are very impressive regulators, they're not one of them. But there was a big fight among different potential regulators basically to try and avoid being given responsibility for this law because it's such a dog's dinner and OfCom got left holding when the music stopped.

Too incompetent to avoid the responsibility isn't exactly the credentials one would hope for the task

Think of the man what you will but he's not wrong on the general trajectory and reasons for that trajectory.

 :lol::shifty:

But seriously...
Porn is a small issue. Over exposure rotting the brains of still developing kids, teaching bad behaviours, etc...
But this pales in comparison to the massive fuckery of misinformation on social media, much of which is pushed by hostile states.
In the UK the scars are clear to be seen with brekshit.

Private small groups chatting amongst themselves - fine. Be as anonymous as you like.
But having mass exposure to the public with your message - if it comes to it the authorities need to be able to validate you are who you claim you are.
You shouldn't be able to claim to be a concerned housewife in Whitby when you're a team of guys in St Petes.

Authoritarian dystopia?

I wouldn't but that doesn't seem comparable. I don't need VPNs or handover private data to unknown verification data to buy alcohol online or in person.

That is interesting.  How does the seller know they are not selling alcohol to minors?

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

They don't. I've bought alcohol online and it's the delivery person makes sure you're an adult when they deliver it.

Knives... Its something I've seen cropping up in the news every so often. Kids getting knives delivered.

So what does the delivery person do if the delivery is to kids?

Back in the day, I am told by a friend, that underage teens could get taxi drivers to get their beer. So I guess saying delivery drivers are the safeguard means there are no safeguards.

They're meant to take it back to the depot I think?

They've always been pretty strict on it I've found. I answer the door clearly someone who hasn't been 18 for quite some time and they still ask for ID.

This is another thing where I think our law-making is sub-optimal as every time there's a particularly shocking stabbing you end up with a campaign to ban x type of knife which the government duly does, despite the fact they're often already illegal. I think this type of law-making started under New Labour but it got really bad with David Cameron and the Coalition's habit of "enshrining in law" things that were already the law (on a very technical level they normally meant enshrining in statute as if that was somehow magic).

And having banned all the specific types of knives we're now at the point of the Home Secretary having to say she's considering Idris Elba's campaign to ban kitchen knives with points.

From when I worked in retail it was on you to check the ID and technically the shop and you personally could be liable. I do get the sense those laws are more strictly enforced now than they were when I was young. I'm not sure that's actually been a good thing.

Though they don't always collect ID as I discover every time I buy booze and the supermarket and they click the, frankly hurtful, "visibly over 25" button <_<

Edit: Although I did get IDed by someone in Sainsbury's last year and texted everyone I know about it.
