I don't. I've not interacted much with the UK regulators but I've read hundreds of CRTC paper pages and listened to hours of testimony. They are often clueless.

How would this be regulated? Only companies could purchase licence for VPN softwares? Will enforcing that fall on the seller of the VPN solution? No point, Windows can be configured to connect to a VPN server. Would private individuals be forbidden to purchase Windows licences? Surely Linux can do this as well.

Would ISPs be forced to only let commercial entities have traffic to and from their VPN servers? Even if that's technically POSSIBLE, so what, somebody forms a limited company and sets up a server for private people. How would you police that? The very idea of a VPN that an ISP can't just browse what data you transmit.

So with a lot of complexity and seriously reducing companies and individuals' ability to protect themselves from cyber security, threats, you could maybe force the technology out of reach of... I don't know, those who are not motivated enough to buy a service in the gray economy.

What is the purported purpose of a VPN ban?

So horny Brit's can't get porn by using a VPN to change their nation of origin, presumably.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Or get around platforms restricting "legal but harmful" content under their OSA requirements/duty of care.

Starmer is an authoritarian bastard who has no respect for liberty.

I wonder if people feel the same way about age restrictions on things like tobacco and alcohol.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Authoritarian dystopia?

I wouldn't but that doesn't seem comparable. I don't need VPNs or handover private data to unknown verification data to buy alcohol online or in person.

Authoritarian dystopia?

They probably did. People were outraged at the authoritarian dystopia that was unfolding when seat belts became mandatory.

I think a ban on selling smartphones to under 16 year olds might be a better solution than the current mess.

Requiring ID for mass social media would be fine. Sensible even.
Doing it for porn.... No.
And could maybe help forums make a come back?

I think the British government surveils us enough.

Yeah. I'd ban under 16s from smartphones and social media (another area where I think Australia's been interesting and led the way).

I don't trust government or businesses enough to be in favour if this.
Take this authoritarianism far enough, especially when legislating morality, and you end up with the police of virtue and vice like in Iran or Saudi.
