I've encountered the thing that makes me feel old. Gen Z men thinking it's a good idea to have facial hair that consists only of a mustache.

This seems to come and go weirdly for very short periods of time. I remember this was a fairly trendy thing with people a few years younger than me for a short spell back around 2010.
This past year I have again been seeing it more and more with people in their late 20s or so.
And then you've the 80s....

When did a mustache become a pedo-stache?  When I was young, lots of men had mustaches, it was almost a requirement in Eastern Europe, and frankly a lot of them IMO looked better with them than without them.

I had actually never heard the pedo thing. To me mustaches make dudes look like porn actors so I tended to call it the "pornstache". Though when and how that association got started I am not sure. I am thinking the 70s and 80s when porn in VHS form became a thing.

Yes. I think it was because a lot of those late 70s and early 80s pornos were still in circulation in the 1990s when mustaches were out of fashion so it formed an association for my generation.

A whispy thing or something like a pencil moustache- now that's a paedo (also what I increasingly see these days...).
Something heftier- there you're getting into porn star.
Get too epic of course then it tips over into full blown kaiser.

I live near a very lefty arts university so there's a fair few painfully hip young Gen Z folks around.

I was in the barbers a while ago and a young student sat in the chair next for me. He explained that what he wanted was "a trim on the top and a bit off the front. A bit of a trim around the sides too. But just leave the back to grow out."

The barber paused and then just asked "so....a mullet?"

Can confirm they're very much back too. And the guys line was "yeah a mullet but not, like, mullet-mullet"

Separately I am enjoying the return of loose fit clothes - and BBoy's fashion forward fondness for a pleat is at last vindicated.
