Razgovory

I love these sort of deep thoughts that put our tiny little lives in perspective.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

I'm surprised that this hasn't come out before (unless I missed it). It's brilliant.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

The Minsky Moment

Also says something when people draw an equivalence in terms of rational degrees of skepticism between one of the world's leading immunologists, and a class action lawyer who claims that his brain was half-eaten by a parasitic worm.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Fauci never even said anything that out of line with what the other doctors around the world were saying did he? I never understood why he in particular became a villain.

But then I just talked to some doctors I knew personally and followed their advice, I wasn't paying much attention to what the news was saying. I suddenly had to home school a 2nd and 3rd grader.

He became a villain when he was caught on camera laughing when Trump said something stupid.

I don't know about other countries (though I'm curious. Anyone?) but in the UK our chief medical officer during covid also recieved (recieves) a lot of shit from conspiracy nuts.
I guess it's to be expected in a country where such views are more mainstream the level of insane hate would be too?

So I saw a meme that claimed:

  • The average income in the United States is $74,500
  • Excluding the top 10 Americans it's only $65,000
  • Excluding the top 50 Americans it drops to $48,000
  • Excluding the top 1000, it drops to just $35,5000

Anyone know how true that is?

The Minsky Moment

Labor Force is 170 million
At $74,500, that is total income of 12.7 trillion

Substract 10 people out and reduce the average to $65,000.  Now the total goes down to 11.1 trillion.

Difference is about 1.6 Trillion.  That implies an average income of $161 billion per year for the top 10.

Doubt it

That seems unlikely as the median income is about 60,000.

Thanks, that was the number I was going to look for

You might get something like that affect if you were going by total household wealth.  Wealth is enormously skewed in the US and getting worse every year.

Yeah. There is a reason why people would believe that meme. It's false but it has "truthiness"
