And why are they showing a picture of an airplane when talking about submarines?

Though, to be fair, airplanes and ships do the same thing.

Because you can see better via full-spectrum light.

On ships, CIC is always in red light when underway, to make the screen resolution more clear.  Submarines do the same in the control room, day or night (which aren't all that meaningful in a submerged submarine).

Astronomers also use red lights for the same reason. :)
My Dad had a flashlight from his Navy days that had a red lens you could put over the light. We used it every time we took out the telescope to stargaze.

So they don't use it during the day and they do.  Thanks.

Those are submarine windows.  To let the light in.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

How much time are modern submarines at the surface?

 I have no idea what you are saying here.  They don't and they do?

Leaving and entering port. Seldom in between, probably most of the in-betweens being part of a training exercise.

That's for nukes, the only type of subs I have been out on.  Diesel boats may surface for air, or may just snorkel.  I don't know.

Unclear.  It looks more like a simulator than an actual aircraft (no US surveillance aircraft has windows like that) but maybe the creators just Googled "red military" or something.

I'm also unsure what it means that none of the operators depicted are wearing the headsets they would be wearing in a real or simulated environment.

It's an AI image.  I posted it because it is nonsense.  Facebook is filled with these sort of "facts"

I go there to keep up with my friends and family and get assaulted by non-stop AI slop. It really sucks.

I get large amounts of pro-Trump nonsense, pro-Palestine nonsense, and stuff about how the Earth is flat and space is fake.

Thanks Grumbler, and looking at Raz's recent post it's AI, so we justified in being unsure.
