I think it's the same in the US, although I only know it second-hand, as I went to an engineering college but not for an engineering degree.  It's same with actuaries, where you really only need credentials if you're signing an actuarial opinion, although many credentialed actuaries would quietly resent you if you call yourself actuary without a credential.

CC says that's not the case here. My experience is going on two decades ago so it's possible that 1) that's no longer the case, or 2) I was mistaken even at the time. I don't have the confidence to argue either way :D


*edit* that being said I do know that the really pretentious certified engineer wear their stupid ring with too much pride. Even the other engineers think they're assholes :lol:
