What does a TRUMP presidency look like?

I don't agree that it is all that independent.  Perhaps it once was, but there may be a few tails wagging the dog at this point.

Quote from: Tonitrus on February 13, 2025, 02:21:24 PMUltimately I am not sure it matters who gets into these positions...as it will almost always end up being a yes-man of some flavor, as the appointment will always come from the same source.  The more colorful they are, perhaps the more likely they will self-destruct in a glorious way.

Well only in the sense that anybody who Trump appointed was likely to be horrible.

I don't think Trump cares too much about refined food.  Nor do I think he cares all that much about disease control - or the lack thereof.  The new Secretary cares deeply about those things, so much so that he will prioritize healthy diet over medicine.

You have a better argument about intelligence - but I think there is more of a chance that the new Secretary has closer ties to Russia than Trump.  If the Secretary was just a mouth piece for Trump I would oddly feel better about that.

A lot can be gleaned from those who the POTUS had in the room during the campaign...specifically when watching the DNC convention.  That included (besides the current WH Chief of Staff); Tulsi Gabbard, Gaetz, and...Oliver Stone.  That says quite a lot about what would be indulged in foreign-policy wise.

Stonewall has updated their official page to eliminate the existence of trans folks, their involvement in the Stonewall Uprising, and even have excised them from LGBTQ+ to now just being LGBQ+. I knew it was probably coming, but it is still a black day in the history of the NPS in my opinion.  :frusty:

What Stonewall?

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

Got it. Well they are trash and that's not the Stonewall Inn's take. And we know our history even if they want to lie about it.

For some reason I was thinking of the gay rights organization and thought that sounds crazy - but yeah if it's a NPS monument run by the Federal Government then I guess they can do that.

So they disagreed with dist.

You're not following the conversation.  Joan effectively conceded my point.

QuoteWhen it was time to go to Afghanistan, all of NATO went to Afghanistan and contributed, some more than others.

When America decided it needed to leave everyone to hang dry in there, piss off most of their allies by imposing tariffs because it had refused to invest in clean energy and invaded Iraq, NATO still stayed in Afghanistan and some of its allies followed in Iraq.

Now you're shitting on them.

Then Republicans slap them again with tariffs, betray them to the Russians and North Koreans, complain some of their people don't like Americans.  Repeat & Rinse, complain some more about objectives not being met in a democracy.

Fine.

Anyway.  I read in the news that you are preparing your next colonization mission to the Carribean.  It truly is a return to the 19th century.  It's Haïti and the Dominican Republic for your soldiers.  There goes my retirement plan.

Good rant.   AFAICT you're suggesting Europe's (and Canada's) free riding was ex ante justified by Trump's future actions.  "In 20 years the US will elect a sociopath so let's fuck them now with some free riding."

I don't get the terror the current administration feels over the existence of trans people.  Do they think that using the letter T in an acronym will allow Transcula to slip into their houses at night and, with a bite, turn them into trans people as well?

I cannot think of a more pathetic national over-reaction to anything.
