You seem to be suggesting I have been optimistic up to now, which I have not.  Perhaps you don't understand what "stoic" means?

I don't see the problem with Hegspeth's statement.

The US withdrawing its nuclear umbrella from Europe may have far-reaching consequences.

Quote from: The Brain on Today at 03:09:51 PMIn a famous video clip President Musk first says laughingly that some elections are important and some are not (ie the next one wink wink nudge nudge) before doing Nazi salutes, and the GOP crowd cheers. This is where we are. Or rather were  some time ago, things are only getting worse. Europe has to disengage from America.

Please take us with you...

Last time I checked, the definition of stoic did not include willful blindness.

Oh, the Musk administration will be there. They'll just be celebrating the other side.

We should have been buildings our own nukes from the moment trumpler was elected the first time,  but since our politicians are invertebrates...

And I supposed it would be a good idea for us to revisit that decision also.

Indeed, we should have the capabilities to nuke maralago, at the very least

The nuclear umbrella is what made the US the primary guarantor of security in Europe. Europe can defend itself against conventional Russian attack.

I believe that Fascists typically rise to power during times of economic trouble. If Trump tanks the US (and potentially the world) economy it will be interesting to see whether that will facilitate the entrenchment of his oligarchy, whether it will lead the deck-chair switching and a different oligarchal clique taking over, or whether it will lead to a rejection of Trumpist-Elonism altogether.

The UK and France have them.

Only France has its own nuclear capability. And it's scary to rely 100% on a single French boomer, and that's assuming that France would even extend a nuclear umbrella over Europe.

It's more about the election process.  But you don't see a problem with NATO disintegration?

Stoic:
One who is seemingly indifferent to or unaffected by joy, grief, pleasure, or pain.

Is there any other definition you are thinking of?  You are indifferent that the electoral process of States will likely be rigged starting at the next election as one of the core process by which electoral integrity was insured (along with foreign election interference which was already dismantled) is being dismantled?
