I buy a bag of kitchen garbage bags - just to keep in my car for garbage.

In the old days I'd just re-use plastic grocery bags.

I'm mixed on that ban - because I've certainly seen plastic grocery bag litter out in the world.  But the alternatives have their downsides too - and many plastic grocery bags were being re-used.

Quote from: crazy canuck on Today at 10:18:14 AMAll funding for biomedical research has been frozen.  This one doesn't make sense at all.  Why would the United States want to give up on one of its best industries at a time that the Trump administration wants to bring jobs back to the United States?
If God had wanted you to have a vaccine or a pill, it would have been written in the Bible, no? :hmm:

The sad part is, it isn't even the fundy religious nuts who are driving this stuff. They are weirdly sidelined in the Trump era.

Yeah, it's the fiscal conservatives who are all on board this train. As BB explained, need to find that budget room for the tax cuts that are necessary to make the Billionaires into Trillionaires.

And the multi use bags don't exactly have zero environmental impact to produce. How many of those do you have around the house? :D

My personal conspiracy is that garbage manufacturers advocated for the ban :contract: :P

BB has a point.

Some of what Elon Musk is doing is designed to benefit him personally.

Like the... What is it named again?  The credit bureau tasked with protecting consumer rights against financial institutions who overstep the line?

Musk plan to launch his own financial service, competing Paypal.

Now, there is no regulatory agency to oversee him, to put any kind of block to his practice.
And he has access to all his potential competitors data.

Just because on the outside someone appears like a butcher doesn't mean there isn't a point to what they are doing.

Nazi scientists did horrible experiments on human beings.  More often than not, probably pointless experiments causing a lot of harm.  Their goal wasn't specifically to create human suffering.  It was a byproduct they didn't care about, or a necessity in the eyes of some since they didn't seen the victims as entirely humans.

In here, the goal is to slash taxes and profit Musk, mainly him, but some others too.

It's not too dissimilar of what he did with X.  X is working.  Sort of.  You can use X to communicate.  It's down, your personal information is at risk, users are harassed, non far right content is suppressed, but it's "standing".

So if the Federal government has a few departments sort of working with borked AI, a few employees, who cares about the rest?  Taxes for billionaires will be low, it does not really matter if social security payments do not reach the American people on time.  If taxes aren't collected correctly/efficiently.  If farmers do not receive promised aid and their farms are sold to mega corporations who employ them at 7,25$/h.

It's like global warming.

If you say "Earth is going to be destroyed by global warming", people are not listening.  Earth will always be there.  There will likely always be life too, we find microbes and bacteria in extremely hostile environment, these will proliferate in a warmer Earth, or flooded zone.  Earth will not explode or disappear because the average temperature increase 4-5C and ice cap meltdown.

There will be a poorer country called the United States, or rather, a country like the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia.  Or a North Korea or Russia.  These countries still exists, some countries are really happy to do business with them, the population still survive.  A significant part of the population is happy to live there.

Venezuela still exists.  It's a crime ridden shithole, but a lot of people are happy to live there.  Same for Cuba.

This is what will happen to the US.  A few people will control the riches, the rest will be poor, but will accept their fate, or eventually try to leave while they can.  The military will disintegrate due to lack of funding, some billionaires and drug lords will buy their own submarines or warship, aircraft carriers will be scrapped with the parts sold to pay the debt of the country when the creditors come calling, to avoid currency devaluation.

But it's all going to be allright.

Because Palestinians and libs are fucked.

The answer - many.

My own personal conspiracy is that grocery stores love those re-useable bags because they make a profit off of them.  And I don't think it's a conspiracy either.

Not entirely.

Both group are mixed.  Techno bros aren't fundy religious nuts, but the old guard like the Murdoch and the Walton certainly are.

They helped elect him, they are pissed that their government funded charities are now disfunded, but they got the cultural war they wanted, and the restrictions to abortion rights.  Project 2025 is in full swing, so I would not say they are totally sidelined.  Trump is still at 47% approval.

Paper straws was a nice, petty distraction.

How about the part that US companies paying bribes for foreign contracts is now back on the menu?

You mean it'll be in the open. It's happening now regardless.

He already removed most of the ethics watchdogs in the federal government so it is only fair foreign government officials can also get in on the action.

Yeah, they got shown the door.  Viper wants to see them as in charge because that's who he hates.  He never did explain how the US not banning the Hijab resulted in the US getting Trump before I put him on ignore.  Oh well, I guess I'll never know.

Raz and Viper, it would be really great if you took your ongoing feud to a private thread. Both of you are otherwise enjoyable to read.

QuoteCarter introduces bill renaming Greenland

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) released the following statement today after introducing a bill authorizing President Trump to acquire Greenland and renaming it Red, White, and Blueland:

"America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland. President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal."

Why not? Just rename the Earth to planet Trump while we are at it.
