Can't believe it was 2008.  Time sure flies. I remember ranting about Harper proroguing Parliament at the time. I know my priors too.

If you want a deep dive into where drug policy went wrong here in BC, a friend of mine is interviewed in this YouTube video. He's been working on the issue, his whole academic career.  You can listen to what he has to say at the 18 minute mark. His interview goes on for about eight minutes.

One of the interesting/shocking things you will learn is that the provincial government recently ordered him to destroy his data accumulated over 20 years of research.

Not politics I know, but in the sprit of liking my favourite North American country, I bought something Canadian yesterday, a Canadian made Trek bike.  :Canuck:

Apparently it's been up into the high Canadian Rockies, found it's way over to here with a Canadian who brought his family over to live/work and explore the UK.

Now that he's going back to Canada, doesn't need it or air freighting it isn't worth the cost. It's the sort of bike you could travel around the world on, my ambitions are decidedly less that either that or what he got up to with it.

Laatest Angus Reid poll has Liberals at 16%.

https://angusreid.org/liberals-prime-minister-trudeau-resign-election-2025-poilievre-singh/

That's less than the NDP, and the lowest they've ever polled the Liberals (they once had Ignatieff at 17%).

Trudeau also cancelled all year-end interviews (at least seven outlets), leaving only an interview with comedy show 22 Minutes recorded before Freeland resigned as his only year-end interview.

Yeah, it's no longer IF he quits but how soon.

So where can I buy FUCK POILIEVRE giant flags and stickers? It's my turn to make my car a shining beacon of subtle political messaging.

I'm sure nothing will happen to my car, right BB?

You guys realize this trend started at least with Fuck Harper signs, right?

The fellow in the article was charged with stunting.  Judge found that while the driving pattern displayed did amount to stunting, the sign itself, while offensive, was constitutionally permissible behaviour.

(and this was in Alberta)

Although I should say I also hate this further coarsening of political speech on all sides.

I don't know.

Trudeau is 53 years old.  Apparently in the 22 Minutes interview, when asked about quitting, he commented that at that age his father Pierre still had a dozen years of being Prime Minister to go.  With him being separated from Sophie he doesn't exactly have a "spend more time with my family" reason to quit.  I've always felt more than a whiff of narcissism about Trudeau as well (you can of course feel free to disagree).

So with no formal mechanism to force Trudeau out, basically no time to hold a leadership race (I think it would be outrageous to try and prorogue now, in January, until the summer), and Trudeau believing that he's just special enough to be able to bring back the Liberals (in particular now with Donald Trump as a foil) - I'd give him about 60/40 odds of resigning at best.

It would be more interesting if you actually had something to say.

Obviously the use of "Fuck" in political discourse has only increased since Harper's era (and certainly helped by influence south of the border), but it is 100% not exclusive to the right.

It's true that a match and a star both emit light. It's true that a Chihuaha and a Great Dane are both canines.

Let's set a little wager, you and I.

If Pierre Poilievre becomes Prime Minister in 2025, I think "Fuck Poilievre" (or even more likely "Fuck PP") will be widespread.

The fact that a "Fuck Harper" sign attracted attention in 2015, while "Fuck Trudeau" is almost common-place, has to do with changes in our overall culture, not some virtuousness on the left / vulgarity on the right.

(By the way - while I can't find any flags, "Fuck Trump" merch is easy to find on the web)

BB has a bit of a short memory.  I'm not sure why he offered to make a bet that you would actually have this sort of flag.

Sure I'll take that bet. I visit Vancouver and Montreal often. I'm quite confident that I'll see very few Fuck PP in Vancouver and zero in Montreal, because we're not children trying to "own the libs".
