When I think of England, I think of good, healthy eating.

But seriously don't use it even to proof a chopping board, you don't want it anywhere near food.

I rather like 60s and 70s film and TV publicity photos, there far less professional than todays photoshopped to death on brand creations. Came across this one, I think because it's got Madelaine smith in it, it might be for the James bond film or possibly a hammer horror film? :

Do we have an automobile mega-thread I'm unaware of?

Honda and Nissan (together with Mitsubishi) agree to merge to form world's third larger automaker.

Nissan is in rough shape with declining sales almost everywhere.  Honda is much more profitable, but has very little experience or technology in electric vehicles.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

Well they are in formal talks.

More than just talks - they've signed a MOU.

Way back as an articling student I worked on a couple of big M&A deals - although admittedly those were hundreds of millions of dollars, not tens of billions.  So there are still multiple stages to go until the deal is finalized (and the article suggests that won't happen until 2026).

DGuller

Wasn't Nissan owned by Renault?  Or was it one of those "Renault will own 20% of Nissan in exchange for Nissan owning 20% of Renault" kind of deals?

You are correct. The MOU is the formal start of the talks.  And if it happens, it won't happen until at least 2026. In the meantime there is a lot of due diligence to do and the hard bargaining related to the actual commercial deal what will be made.  I don't know what regulatory approvals for such a big deal are in Japan, but that might be a show stopper.

Nice Xmas present for the accounting and legal firms involved.

I have zero knowledge, but even after the merger, they would still be smaller than Toyota. So might not be a competition issue.

The two Truck brands Fuso and Hino also announced a merger, but there is total silence on that for a year or so at least. No idea if that is due to something specific in Japanese merger deals.

I can't remember the specifics but loads of the Japanese car companies already own shares in each other. Not sure if Japan cares much about monopoloes and such?

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Just discovered that Mussolini's great-grandson, Romano Floriani Mussolini, is a footballer for Lazio (on brand) currently on loan to a Serie B team, Juve Stabia.

Scored the only goal in a last game and the announcer called out "Romano" seven times with fans responding with a fascist salute and shouts of "Mussolini".

He's the son of Alessandra Mussolini former Senator, Deputy and MEP - historically from the same party as Meloni. Unlike Meloni, Mussolini moved to more centrist parties and ended up in Forza Italia.
